Hi. I'm fair new to guitar (been playing about 2 years) and pickup combinations confuse me a bit. I know that my guitar is wired in parallel with a 3-way switch. I often use the middle position as it sounds good to me.

I then hear a lot about people getting a really hot humbucker for the bridge and one with half the dc resistance in the neck.

I'm just curious as to how these combinations usually work if you have your guitar wired in parallel for using both pickups at once. Will the big differences in power 'ruin' the sound? Do most people coil split this kind of combination in that case?

These are just some of the things I've been curious about. And if anybody can provide me with info or links on the most common ways that people coil split their pups, I'd be very thankful.
