Not saying the Dutch system is flawless (it's not), but from my perspectives it is nowhere near as bad as the US system sometimes can be.

Though the Aussies reporting on this is a bit strange. I thought ravenous kangaroo swarms would keep them busy from posting this sort of tripe.

In what way is your legal system 'broken'?

The solution is simple and obvious.

We revolt against ourselves. Mass suicide. The ultimate revolution.

False, oral contracts are accepted in court, just not preferred over written. Even so, genuineness of assent wouldn't be met, meaning the consent of the couple wasn't genuine (held as hostages and forced into the contract) and it would have been thrown out in court.

Not necessarily so. Legally binding contracts can be formed orally.

Did not know that, interesting. But wouldn't he have to prove that they engaged in an oral contract?

Neighbours have said the couple fed Dimmick snacks and watched movies with him until he fell asleep and they were able to escape their home unharmed

Made me lol...sounds like quite a nice night they had with him

"In order for parties to form a binding contract, there must be a meeting of the minds on all essential terms, including and most specifically, an agreement on the price," he wrote.
Keeshan said the contract also would have been invalid because the couple agreed to let Dimmick in the home only because they knew he had a knife and suspected he might have a gun.

Sums up my views pretty well.

Yeah... there is actually a law so idiots like him won't get dumb ideas like that. You can't sue your drug dealer when he doesn't deliver either.

Waitaminute. Let me get this straight.

-Man is on the run from the police
-Man trespasses on somebodies property, seeking refuge
-Man offers money to residents in exchange for refuge
-Residents escape
-Man gets shot
-Man sues residents for not protecting him

Is that about right?
