Hello gear specialists of UG. I´ve been playing acoustic guitar for almost a year now and I´ve finally decided to buy my first electric guitar. I´m going to the ´´famous´´ Music Store in Cologne Germany, they offer a large selection of guitars and gear so availability will not be a big problem.

I´ve spend a lot of time researching on what to look for in an electric guitar so that is not going to be a problem. But amps on the other hand are quite elusive to me. Most guides present on the internet are geared towards professional gig players but not towards beginning players with a relatively low budget who are still concerned about a good tone. My only audience is my bedroom so there is no need for the amp to go extremely loud.

The second problem is that I don´t speak German and I don´t trust salesmen. That said, I need some tips on what to look for in an amp. My budget is 150 euros (~200 USD). Does anyone have any tips to tell apart the quality amps from the mediocre amps in this budget?

My two guitar heroes are Tom Morello and Mike Einziger (Audioslave/Ratm and Incubus respectively). So I will be looking for a guitar with humbucker pickups (If this is the wrong choice because I misjudged the mentioned guitarist's guitars, please mention it Example, Example 2 )

Morello and Einziger use a myriad of effect pedals so I’m looking for an amp that is relatively versatile and maybe an effect pedal that contains multiple effects (The most agreeable pedal in my price range is the Digitech RP55 )

I hope I've provided sufficient information and I hope such amplifiers exist within this price range.

Thanks in advance.

I would say if you don't want to gig at all then go for a 1 watt tube. I know fender and blackstar both make 1 watt amps. Fender will give you a nice bluesy tone where the blackstar could give you a lot more drive. Also: Tom Morello actually used strats for all his tones. But, most tube amps will probably be out of your price range unfortunately. I think the blackstars run about 240 here in the us. In terms of quality, play them and see if how the distortion is. A lot of modelers tend to be really dry on that side. Also check fror speaker breakup. If you crank it and it sounds good as you get speaker breakup then you have a quality amp.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

The amps you guys suggested seem quite great and they are available at the Music store according to their site. I will definitely try them out!

Thanks a lot!
