Bob Dylan and The VU, and he took cues from the rest of the glam scene at the time. Lots of the influence that artists like T. Rex and Bowie took were from their peers; it was a very inbred genre at its peak.

Anyway, Bowie's influence is near ubiquitous-- so who hasn't copied him? And I'm pretty sure the Ramones made a career off of rewriting "Hang on to Yourself."
