My cousin is going but there's all kinds of debate as to whether the hi fi in Melbourne will even still be open then which could **** up the whole thing. I think the same dudes run the Sydney one as well and it could all go belly up before AF even get here.

The only sidewave gig I looked at was Incubus, wish I knew about the NFG/Wonder Years one earlier. Whereabouts is clowns? Initially booked flights for soundwave halfway through last year before the lineup release purely because I got them super cheap ($250 return from Perth is almost unheard of). Wasn't super happy with the lineup but I mean a holiday is a holiday! Sydney weather is whack.

Definitely would have gone to that, Wonder Years had to pull out of their last Aus tour, was super bummed about it. Incubus tickets were heaps, could've gone to soundwave for a day for the same price! Might check out that Clowns show though, cheers for the heads up man!

Well that was complete ****ing bullshit...

It was a seated event, and we got our tickets ASAP so we were in the third row right? Great seats right? Wrong. Because the venue let's all the selfish **** stand up in front of the stage so all I can see is a wall of backs. The dude next to me complains to me about it, then at the end him and his girlfriend not only decide to stand up, but they also decide to go a row ahead and stand directly in front on me so all I can see is his fuking band shirt. They then have the ****ing nerve to apologise with the expectation that I will forgive them for folding and joining in with the rest of new night-ruining horde. I sat my ass down in my seat the whole time, I had a terrible time, but I stuck to my morals and refused to **** up the night of the folk behind me like the selfish ****s in front of me ruined mine.

I am so goddamn furious right now. You guys know how much I love Mogwai. So I waited ages and I didn't expect I would ever get the chance to see them. So they come to Adelaide, I buy my ticket, go to the show. And guess what?

I still haven't ****ing seen them...

EDIT: oh and then they ran out of the shirt i was going to buy!

Really sorry to hear that. At gigs like that it beggars belief how people can be so inconsiderate as to ruin the show for the hundreds of people whose view they obstruct and have paid good money to get tickets. And why were so many people standing up anyway? I personally don't get the urge to headbang to post-rock...

I've also had the opposite happen to me at some gigs that really shouldn't have been seated. I had the nerve to get up and dance to a couple of songs at a seated Seth Lakeman gig and some damn fool about 5 rows behind shouted at me to sit down. It's a damn fool folk gig, you should be on your feet with a pint of ale having an awesome time, you damn fool.

Guess I'll share for the handful of you that didn't see yet.
I bought a 1965 Bandmaster yesterday with the matching cabinet. The cab has been loaded with older greenbacks. I don't hate them, but I need to hear the Bandmaster with other speakers before I decide on the celestions for this.
Anyways. It's a really great amp. The GE 6L6s were dead and I threw some EHX 6L6s in there until I can see my tech in the middle of next month. I'm gonna throw some nice NOS shit in there because I have all RCAs in the preamp section.
Anyways, this will make for a great demo platform and the John Mayer tones rule.
Hahahaha, but I can post-rock myself to sleep with this amp. And the mojo is unmatched.

I bought the budda. You can see on my facebook. Then I returned it. The new production ones are not nearly as good as my old series one.

So I returned it and bought this beautiful ****ing amplifier. haha

Very jealous of Korey's bandmaster.

Also, I'm in the studio this weekend with my screamo/emo/whatever band. Massive amounts of porn incoming. Here's the other guitarist's collection, to start:

I'm not exactly considering celestions. I worded that funny. I meant I'd give it some time before I decide if I'm keeping these celestions or not.
Definitely not putting EVMs in here because I've realized I don't like that much speaker headroom. I'll figure something out. The greenbacks sound pretty alright though.

EVMs in a Fender probably aren't the best thing.

And yeah, I sold it to the bassist of his other band but we're borrowing it for this session. The double dark boost setting is killer on bass.

So my first rehearsal with my new band was insane. We basically wrote a gig's worth of material in our first session, just by setting the drum machine going, picking a chord and going for it. You can tell that the other half of the duo (who plays bass) used to be a guitarist because he plays chords with a pick through a fuzz pedal, which is exactly the kind of bass playing I absolutely love. Even the drum machine had some serious vibing going on.

one of my best customers (seriously he owns like 20 toyroom pedals and has had 50+ things modified by me) plays most of his gear through all sorts of junky drum machines. like a mix of good old stuff and toy shop crap.

I'd buy one if I had any ****ing money ay. Soon broke.

Played a Hyperion for the first time yesterday. **** thats a mad circuit. So much range in the gain knob alone. It's from the muff family isn't it? Because I've never really liked muffs, had an NYC, Anarchy Audio Cockblocker and found the musket boring as ****.
But the Hyperion is mad fun. I think my mate is gonna pick it up, he was equally impressed and I'll get to play it a heap more.

I want to try out a Hyperion one day, just need to find a dealer in the UK that actually has one in stock...

As you may have read I recently formed a new band, and of course the most important thing about that is getting my pedalboard right for it. At our first rehearsal I was using my normal board that I use for my Americana excursions (McSpunckle And Aardvarks! overdrive, Fuzzhugger Algal Bloom, Red Witch Eve tremolo and Dispatch Master) modified with some bodging - by unplugging a few patch leads I can 'patch in' (that's why they're called that, you know) my Fuzzhugger Arc Flash and DL-4 to add post-rock-wall-of-sound delays and glitchy noisy fuzz to the equation. But this then needs another power supply, and having unpacked everything after rehearsal I discovered that this setup takes about 15 minutes to put together, and that's not including two guitars, an amp and the drum machine, which I expect would upset a lot of people when we played gigs.

So now I'm thinking of, for this band, throwing my spare Polytune in front, plugging the Holy Grail in at the end (and praying it lasts for an entire gig without breaking) and using the Arc Flash and DL-4. That does mean I need an overdrive, and it's reminded me how totally uninspiring I find 99% of the overdrive pedal market. Since I play Teles and I like them to sound like Teles (bright, brash and twangy) I tend to veer away from Tubescreamer clones and Marshall-in-a-box things. I was looking at the EHX Soul Food but a friend of mine has one and says it still has a mid-range peak that saps his Tele's character quite noticeably.

So I don't know what overdrive I should get. A SS/BS Mini, maybe? Or even just a boost to give it a nudge in the right direction, like an EP Booster.

The same friend (who has recently spent all his worldly assets on a Strymon Flint) summed it up perfectly in the pub on Saturday night - "Ahh, f**king gear, man"

I hope this isn't the kind of vibing my circuit bent Yamaha does. It used to crash in the middle of every single gig (and wipe it's memory). Only reason it stopped is coz I stopped gigging it. Keep us updated, if you ever play a show near Bristol I'll come along.

A lot of chat about this Hyperion fuzz, I'm getting a bit fed up with the muff sound so I'm thinking of building one, do they live up to the hype? Sort of thinking I might actually just want a normal distortion as I've never owned one.

Built a Great Destroyer today for my "normal" guitar board and it's properly nuts, there's even at least one good straight up fuzz tone. Gonna build a double destroyer for my noise setup, which should be a disgusting mess.

My board for guitar is currently:

TU3
OCD
El Capistan
Context
Ditto

Bass board is:

Polytune Mini
(Ever changing dirt pedal - haven't decided yet)
HOF mini

Still keeping it simple which works for me, but I am keen to try different gain pedal (ie not muffs or rats). Just not sure what I need or want I guess. Still thinking about a trem and a subtle chorus pedal.

Brendan, you should try some SS/BS dirt its mad. I have the mini and the BUZZZ and I love then. The Buzz might be cool for you. Superfuzz with switchable midscoop/octave/gain stages/clipping diodes.
The TAFM looks mad also and might be more your thing.
Also the penny pedals fingerprint, basic audio scarab deluxe and the new mxr big purple octave thingy looks mad.

My board for guitar tonight is:
polytune mini
Warped Vinyl
Industrialectric RM-1N
The Cleanness
DD7+TT
Fairfield meet maude

Sounds awesome.

also salmon man, the Hyperion is cool but pretty normalish, not a crazy pedal but not mundane at all. A nice fuzz for actual guitar plus a touch of weirdness,
great destroyers are totally way madde

I loved how well mine took modulation effects in front of the pedal, my chain for a while was os-3, eq, turbo rat, modulation land, Hyperion, delay amp. The Hyperion kicked my muff off the board, till it got stolen.

****in oath Tim, Microkorgs are so sick. Keys player in my band uses an arturia keylab and a mac for his normal sounds and then has a microkorg stacked on top for tripping and its so much fun.

the other day we ran it through a toyroom splash damage, mxr bass octave deluxe and an eqd sea machine and disaster transport into an older fender rumble 100(I think) and just lay there turning knobs for like 40 minutes. They are just the greatest.

also tombe I recommend the mini as well, i love mine. Plus shit you have some mad fuzz already ay. Maybe just buy a bigger board that can fit everything?
