Hi there

I play in a heavy indie rock band (originals but in the same ball park as Pixies)
and currently gig with My guitars (Telecaster with P90s/Gibson Marauder) going through a RAT, a tube screamer and into a Zoom G2 from which I take a stereo pair out into A Vox AC15 and a VT30.

I generally play with a fairly distorted sound (which you can hear on the recordings at www.pocketmessiah.com)

Basically, I find that the VT30 is too harsh live and lacks bottom end
I am lokoing for another amp that will complement the AC15. Something warm and rich, with bit of valve crunch but not too big and not too heavy (so a 1x12 would be fine) as I drive to gigs in a little Volkswagen Polo and give the drummer a lift too with his stands, snare and breakables!

I'd like to pay around £200 if possible, new or second hand

I'm based in South London BTW!

Any suggestions for me would be much appreciated.

get yourself a laney vc30 112, make sure it's a 12" speaker..

very very similar to the vox and would compliment excellently..

you may want to look at a vc15 too, similar power to the ac15?

I would second the getting another ac15. I haven't heard of laney all that much so I can't say anything, but I would look at blackstar as well. Don't look at the marshall class 5. It breaks up at less than half volume in my experience.

Laney VC15/30 would do the job nicely, or maybe the Bugera BC30. You could probably get either secondhand in your budget.

I'm thinking that, instead of a second amp, what I might need is a 1x12 extension cabinet running at 16ohms - does that sound right?

I think the AC15cc1 can run it's own internal speaker plus an external one if it's at 16ohms...

Or is that balderdash?

Get a better cab for your AC15. Maybe look for a used 1x12 cab with a greenback in it. you can get the Harley Benton 1x12 with a V30 cheap, but I dont know how that would work with a vox.

The only thing to consider is if you're actually using stereo effects....

Stereo effects - 2nd amp.
No stereo effects - extension cab.

If you get an extension cab, it will be a little louder but really not by much. It feels like quite a difference (especially going from 2 to 4 speakers) because of the amount of air the added speakers are pushing.

That would be perfect!

Most people agree that the AC15/30 sound best with celestion blues/greenbacks

Excellent - I think I'll get it then!

Hopefully I will get a bit of extra volume from having the two speakers...

It technicaly will not be much louder, but it is precived to be louder because of the amount of air you'll move.
