So Pit,
Inspired by the Led Zeppelin fanboy in that other thread, I've decided to explore other music scenes a bit, instead of listening to classic rock.

A lot of you people have been talking about a teenage music phase, where all you listen to is classic rock and I've found out that I'm only starting to get over it. I don't want to be stuck in the past when it comes to music and I'd be grateful if you'd direct me to some good bands and artists, so that I don't have to search around too much.

Their time period doesn't really matter, as long as you feel that other people could become fond of him, her or them.

I'll try to be as open minded as possible when it comes to genres, so that I branch out as much as possible. I guess a lot of stuff would be fine, but I'd probablly go for it more if it was more along the lines of rock and blues and less along the lines of hip hop, rap and electronica. But, again, if you feel that a band is worth mentioning don't hesitate.

And for some ideas, these are some of the artists I've been listening to for the past month or so:
The Rolling Stones
Rory Gallagher
Jefferson Airplane
Bob Dylan
Metallica
The Blues Brothers

Well, I'm looking forward to your suggestions. Fire away!

TL;DR: Recommend me music you like, you lazy motherhubber!

Make sure you do.

I don't like to compare music, but if I did I'd probably call Biffy my favourite band. Brilliantly unconventional yet never try-hard, and an incredible spectacle live. they don't really fall into one genre either, but prog-alt-post-punk-fusion-art-rock more or less sums them up in a pretentious way. Think what I just said, but fraction of fraction as serious and pretentious.

Their latest album (ironically the one which has really brought them chart success) is, admittedly, not quite up to their usual watermark but it's still massively better than most modern music, and their other albums are all incredible despite an undeniable tone-down in style after the fourth album.

Flying Lotus - Do The Astral Plane
Blu - Amnesia
TOKiMONSTA - Sa Mo Jung
Tipper - Dead Soon

I purposely picked stuff that would take you out of your comfort zone and show you a bit of what I think is some of the best stuff in genres you said you might not be into.

I love threads like these too, I always end up finding a bunch of awesome music.

Oh. Right. I posted that I thought Led Zep were better than The Beatles, Kinks and Rolling Stones. A number of people got butt hurt, so I thought the comment was aimed at me. Does kinda suck how classic rock nerds are so elitist. Metal heads and classic rock guys are definitely the worst.
