Best metal amp for $300. Tube or Solid. I will be purchasing a new amp with my tax refund and I'd like to start watching and reading reviews as trying some of them out. thanks.

What kind of metal?

What do you consider metal? Large variances, etc.....

Also, at that price point there won't be much that's better than your vyper. If you're needing more volume, there are options but sound quality will suffer.
#4
Mostly thrash metal like metallica, megadeth, slayer, pantera, etc. Along with some newer metalcore stuff.

I wouldn't be against just improving sound quality over volume. like maybe a 5 watt tube amp. But I wouldnt even know where to start. I could go up to 350 for the right amp. A couple I have been looking at are the blackstar ht1 and the jet city half stack. Any more info would help alot. Just suggestions for me to look into...

My advice to you would be to save some more money. $500 will get you a damn decent rig if you decide to go used.

Then save up some more. It's better to do that than to just go ahead and by something now and it not be good enough. Yea you'll have to wait and it'll suck, but it'll be better in the long run. Look into a used 6505+ or Spider Valve.

crate blue voodoo's are cheap. i bought one a while back. i plan on modding it eventually. i dont ever really use it though.

Save up for a 6505+ 112. Go for $580, but you can talk them down. I got mine for $450 I think.

I've seen a used bugera 6262 for around $300 usd before. 'course that's not including the cab...
#13
You could probably find a used Vypyr Tube in your budget.

I was going to suggest a Vypyr 75 but then I saw that you already have the 15. Not really much of an upgrade.

Best advice I can offer: save your damn money.

The only good suggestion was the Bugera. Otherwise Ampeg VH-140C is your best friend. Seriously.

I'm not gigging, just jamming a bit. I'm gonna check out the blackstar amps. I just want an improvement over my shitty vypyr.

I upgraded from a Vypyr to a HT-5. The tone and responsiveness is a LOT better than the Vypyr (imo) but it lacks low-end.

I fixed this by throwing a MXR 6 band EQ in the FX loop. Now it has tons of low end, but just know that you'll have next to no low-end on the HT-5 without an EQ pedal.

i posted a little bit earlier in this thread.

i forgot to mention earlier. i paid $300 for a Peavey Valve King and a Line 6 cab.

the blue voodoo i got was $200 and i threw in a bad monkey (go used for $25) i am sure you could find a cab with the rest of the money, it might not be pretty or have ideal speakers, but it is an option.

if you want to stay with a 1x12" combo, Peavey makes a 50 watt valve king i would imagine one of those would be in your budget used. it wont sound great stock but with a little bit of investment makes them 10x better.

I'm actually thinking about putting a new speaker in the vypyr I have now and saving up more money and maybe getting a 6505 112 later on. im just having trouble, im not sure if a jensen 8" speaker is good for metal or not.

I honestly wouldn't bother upgrading the 15. It's not a very good amp, and certainly isn't indicative of the rest of the Vypyr line.

The 112 is pretty cool, but for $450 you can find a used 5150/6505 212 combo as well. Other suggestions would be a Jet City JCA20H rig or a Peavey Classic 30 (used), both of these would require a boost to do modern metal well though.

A Peavey VTM would be a TREMENDOUS amp if you dig JCM800-esque metal, I'm waiting for one of these to pop up that I can get . Randall RH50T's can be found for around $300 used now, that might be a good choice as well. Keep in mind both of these are heads and would require a speaker cab as well.

I've seen used Peavey VTM stacks for $500, as well as Ampeg VH-140c stacks for cheaper. Don't bother with any of that shit. If you need a stack (which you probably don't) for under $500, go used, or get a good tube combo.
