Looking for new progressive/symphonic/ambient/power metal bands

#1
I'm trying to find new bands to listen to of the progressive/symphonic/ambient/power metal variety. I already know/listen to Dream Theater, Symphony X, Shadow Gallery, Opeth, DragonForce, Animals As Leaders, Scale the Summit, Angra, Gru, stuff like that. I also like melodic death metal (Omnium Gatherum, Dark Tranquility) or instrumental djent. I like spacey or epic songs, or ones that really make you think meoldy-wise. If you can think of ANY bands like that, could you let me know?
Thanks

hmmm
Cette nuit j'ai rêvé que je mâchais ses yeux
Après avoir crevé par accès de furie
Ta replète panse d'helminthes blancs nourrie,
Trop prompte à déféquer le fruit d'un vit sanieux.

It's best to ask questions of this nature in the recommendation thread at the top of the page

In any case, for something like Symphony X you really ought to try Circus Maximus - The 1st Chapter.

^ Isolate > The First Chapter, even if only for brevity's sake.

And Myrath is another band that's quite akin to SX.

You should also listen to the incredible Dark Quarterer.

And Galneryus and Anubis Gate. And Lost Horizon. Especially Anubis Gate, Lost Horizon, and Dark Quarterer.

And since you like spacey and melodic death, I guess I'll toss Martriden - Encounter the Monolith in there. And I hope to hell that you know Stratovarius. If not, get on them too. There last two outings are pretty solid spacey power metal.

And then there's Andromeda, although I'm not a big fan of them...

But yeah, Anubis Gate actually nails your question. Spacey, atmospheric, Power/Prog. The Detached, Andromeda Unchained, and their newest [self titled] are all brilliant.

It's like Fenriz and J. Read

"I'm so happy to love metal and stuff"

"I AM metal"

Halcyon is a great "djent" band that I've recently come across. I use "djent" because, honestly, they are a hell of a lot more enjoyable than other self-proclaimed djent bands I've heard.

The following is a band that Halcyon recommended from their FB page . Probably a bit closer to what you're looking for.

I'm not a huge fan of Anubis Gate, but I'll admit that they're spacey and that you'll probably enjoy them. I've only heard Andromeda Unchained though.

Ah, right, how could I forget Ayreon? Pretty spacey/power/proggy. Lol. Watch out for cheesy-ass lyrics though.

May as well try Arcturus:

Try old Textures:

May as well try Sikth, but we're slowly moving away from metal:

I've heard Mithras has a spacey death metal atmosphere, but I've never listened to them.

Sort of digressed from the original criteria. Oh well.

Acid probably makes you feel less like a hedonistic raver piece of trash, too.
