I'm looking into getting a hollow-body electric for my dad this Christmas. He used to play when he was younger, and I believe he used to have a Guild electric hollow-body, and has always wanted a Gretsch hollow-body. I thought it would be a good idea to try to get him back into guitar for Christmas.

I'm on a $300 or so budget, and was wondering what kind of guitars I should look into. He'd probably be playing classic rock or 60s pop/rock; he also likes jazz fusion (especially Jeff Beck). I live in the Northeast US, so there is guitar center/sam ash around, as well as a few local music shops, and I'd prefer to buy used, but new is an option.
