I was going to do a little experiment on extreme sleep deprivation and it's effects. Basically, I was going to try and stay away until I simply could not take it anymore.

What are the short and long-term effects that I should be concerned about?

I am currently in this experiment...involuntarily.

...modes and scales are still useless.

I highly recommend that you not do so. I've had extreme insomnia since I was in high school; before I got medical treatment, I would often stay up for 2-3 days at a time. The worst was 5 straight days of no sleep: I ended up in the hospital for a week. Not fun.

Insomnia isn't voluntary though. What this guy is doing would be.

This seems ill-advised.

There really isn't a point; the results of sleep deprivation are well documented already. We're studying it in my AP Psychology class. There was this guy, I think his name was DJ Tripp, who stayed up for 200 hours straight... he doesn't even have the world record for most time awake. That being said, look up his case, and the case of the world record holder, and I think you'll learn more than enough.

I have "methods" that can keep your pretty little ass awake.

Just let me know.

Short term: Dead.

Long term: Still dead.

I'm just saying that extreme sleep deprivation is unpleasant enough that it's not really worth trying

I stayed up for 36 hours over the summer just to say I try it and I'm glad I did it

The nights sleep I had at the end was the most pleasant of my life.

I stayed up for three days straight once. The only two things I remember from that stretch were playing Advance Wars one of the nights, and tripping on my own feet, something that has never happened since. In the end it didn't feel worth the one night.

Considering sleep dep. is part of Army Officer training to gauge people's stress levels and ability to function and lead in extreme conditions (add to this controlled starvation) when all you're probably going to be doing is sitting on your ass scrolling through UG, you'll be fine.
