I find it hard to find out about new music, I don't usually go seeking it.
I usually just stumble upon stuff by accident or have hear it from friends/the radio (not all radio music is terrible )

Anybody wanna recommend something for me to listen to?
I'm not too fussy but I tend to like stuff that's very different, like avant-garde or proggy stuff (not that big on DT though).
I'd like to get into more electronic and atmospheric stuff aswell.

I could post a list of my favourite artists, but then it'll sound too much like a dating article for music lovers

Lil Wayne
Captain Beefheart

Two of the most avant garde artists I know.

lol, I recently bought a Smiths boxset.

Captain Beefheart is someone (along with Zappa) that I need to start look into properly. They have so many albums that it can be hard to choose where to begin.

The Emalkay song aint too bad. Noisia is the only electronic artist I've actually fully fallen in love with.

Yeah if I was you I'd start with Carter III or II. Da Drought 3 is so dense that it can be hard for a first time listener to get into, but it's enjoyable once you're a fan. Stay away from anything he's released after 2008.

Yann Tiersen? I dunno. He's considered avant garde, but blatantly non-electronic focusing on piano and some weird instruments.

My brother's into rap and he's got one of 'The Carter' albums. Not sure which one.

There's one song where he's playing the role of a doctor and he's diagnosing other rappers, saying one has good flow but bad confidence, one's gonna sell out. etc.
I thought that song was actually pretty cool.

But I can't take him seriously as a guitarist

Here's one for you guys.

That's C3. He only has one guitar solo on the album, and it's one of the worst in the history of recorded music. I love that album though, since it's just so all over the place.

Oh, and I so have to say Buckethead.

Try Albino Slug or Crime Slunk Scene if you're into prog

Sorry, but Anamanaguchi isn't really my kind of thing.

The whole '8-bit music' scene is not something that interests me that much. I guess it seems too gimmicky, which is kind of ironic coming from someone who's into prog

There's a really good Swedish Power-Metal band by the name of "Falconer." A lot of the lyrics aren't in english, but it's really good stuff.

I discovered the Falconer album 'Armod' the other day and enjoyed it immensely!

Falconer's lame. listen to Mithotyn instead.

Can't you people develop your own music taste?

Scott Walker's really good. I had a friend in college who was really into him, but I kept forgetting his name whenever I went to search him

His voice is a bit hard to get into at first. But, if I can get into the Residents' vocals, I can get into his.

EDIT: ^^^Quiet Duffman! You're fictional.

I liked it, until the vocals popped up. Now I'm going to go before I take up too much space in this thread.

Listen to The Gunz Show, read Revolver and Alternative Press magazines, online radio (Idobi, ChronicX)
Also, Shoutcast is good for hipster stuff.

That's how you find new music

Electronic? LCD Soundsystem, The Xx.

Other stuff? La Dispute (do yourself a favor and check them out), Godspeed You! Black Emporer, Explosions in the Sky

Also: Muse, Motion City Soundtrack, Wolfmother, and BTBAM (always relevant.)
I pride myself on my humility.
