Hi UG, My name is Mike, and i have a problem.

I have several instruments that I am 100% content with, and wouldn't get rid of for the world, but I still get the itch to have something new. All the time. I get a new guitar every month it seems, and 9/10 of them I just put up for sale/trade within a couple weeks. I have 3 guitars that are on my "keep" list, and 4 more that are currently up for trade. It was 7 more that were up for trade but i sold a few for some quick holiday cash. I'm going to end up trading these guitars for new guitars, and chances are good i'll just trade the new guitars for other new guitars, etcetera etcetera. I don't even need all these guitars...I play MAX 2 hours of guitar a day. If i spent half as much time browsing the local classifieds sites and used that time to practice i'd be one hell of a lot better at actually playing the guitars i own.

does anyone else have this problem?

Current Gear:
LTD MH-400 with Gotoh GE1996T (EMG 85/60)
PRS SE Custom 24 (Suhr SSH+/SSV)
Ibanez RG3120 Prestige (Dimarzio Titans)
Squier Vintage Modified 70s Jazz V
Audient iD22 interface
Peavey Revalver 4, UAD Friedman BE100/DS40
Adam S3A monitors

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

You're not the only one man , that's just what is in the living room right now (minus the LTD that I sold). I've got another... 9 in the back chillin' in cases/gig bags. I swear guitars are like herpes, once you get 'em they never go away.

Fun fact: that Urge I bass belonged to Hamm himself and is one of the prototypes for the series.

i have a similar problem... just end up buying stuff. probably not as often as you, but I'm always buying something (guitars, rack gear, amp parts) to try and improve my gear despite the fact that I love my sound as it is

I have a cello, a fretless bass, and 9 guitars.

I have a G.A.S. list of at least one more bass and another...15? 20? guitars.

I either need help or a winning lottery ticket.

Oh yeah...sometimes I get a fever, and the only thing to cure it is MORE COWBELL!

Why is everyone so avatar-less? It's massively confusing because you all look the same.

i have serious GAS, i think everyone does, some are more affected by it than others because some can resist it while others (like me) give in too easily, i'm always in the process of paying for a new guitar. next one is a hagstrom super swede - a 'real' one made in sweden though, not a reissue
Rig Winter 2017:

Fender Jazzmaster/Yamaha SG1000
Boss TU-3, DS-2, CS-3, EHX small stone, Danelectro delay
Laney VC30-112 with G12H30 speaker, or Session Rockette 30 for smaller gigs
Elixir Nanoweb 11-49 strings, Dunlop Jazz III XL picks
Shure SM57 mic in front of the amp

If i ever won the lottery, it would be literally ALL be spent on cars and guitars/gear. GAS is such a bitch

If I win the lottery I'd pay off the last 2 grand on my car, get a maid service to come clean up my house (so I have room for guitars) and then dump every last bit of what's left into gear

I am living proof that the two afflictions are not mutually exclusive. I had 6 pedals a year before I bought an amp.

wow. I've owned about 14 electrics in my 6 years of playing...sad to say i've only had 3 or 4 nice ones. Needless to say, i hate so many people in this thread right now haha.
#39
Honestly ive spent in total about $250 on guitars. Yet ive owned some where around 9 or 10. Half of them being worth more than $200 and some of those being worth $400. This is the longest ive gone in a long time without throwing a guitar up on craigslist for trade and funny enough its an Ibanez Gio GAX 30 that im keeping. Plays good and is comfortable. But im sure once im working again ill be back on craigslist trading like crazy again.
