right lads, i play mainly acoustic covers but i do play the electric a bit. so im looking to buy a cheap but good electric. what i have at home for practice is a harley benton -les paul shape. it looks good, but thats as far as i can go with it! i love the les paul shape but any suggestions would be great. my price range is €450 thanks

so to get this straight, you want a les paul shaped guitar for 450 euros.

couple'a questions:

1. willing to go used?
2. what's your nearest major city?
3. what style of music d'ya play?
4. any special requirements? (coil-tap, passive/active p-ups, floyd rose bridge etc.)

should be able to help you out a LOT more if you throw some answers to the above questions at us xD

edit: do you only want a les paul shape/style or are you willing to consider others? ie. strat, explorer, super-strat, SG???

but without the questions answered my initial thought would be this http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone_les_paul_ultra_ii_me.htm

If you like Les Pauls, Epiphone are the obvious suggestion.

I have a couple of guitars by Gould, one an LP, and they're excellent for the money - I rate them higher than Epiphone, but I don't know how available they are outside the UK.

Also in the past I've had a couple of Electromatics which are made by Gretsch. Their ProJet is similar to a Les Paul and again, it's very good and generally rated higher than an Epiphone (don't quote me on this, but I believe Gretsch make Electromatics in the same factory as their more expensive equivalents whereas Epiphones are made outside of Gibsons main factory). The only consideration here is they do make a slightly different sound as they have mini-humbuckers instead of the full sized pickups you'll get in other makes.

it will be used prob every day, if thats what you mean.
limerick is my closest city, but i have the same place i go to for guitar bits and pieces. has loads of guitars.
i play u2, green-day, boyce avenue covers, garth brooks, everything and anything.
no special requirements.
i prefer the les paul shape, the SG and explorer are nice too!

by used i meant second hand, but ok, other than the one i reccomended earlier, the epi LP ultra II there's also the ESP LTD EC-256 http://www.thomann.de/gb/esp_ltd_ec256_avg_distressed_ec.htm

the previously mentioned gretsch pro jet http://www.thomann.de/gb/gretsch_g5435_pro_jet_black.htm

and the hagstrom swedie CM http://www.thomann.de/gb/hagstrom_swedie_cm.htm which are all les paul shaped guitars,

if you wanted sg there's always the epi G400 or the ESP LTV Viper-256 http://www.thomann.de/gb/esp_ltd_viper_256_avc_distressed.htm

or explorer wise there's the Epiphone Futura Custom FX ME (b-stock) http://www.thomann.de/gb/epiphone_futura_custom_fx_me_b_stock_3.htm

however as you have no need for EMG 81/85 combo actives nor do you need an FR bridge, that's a bit of a pointless reccomendation from me, so ignore it xD
