So you've lost your TV remote control. Again.

Not to worry, says a tiny Israeli start-up company called XTR3D - soon you'll be able to flick through channels and adjust the volume using only... your hand.

You'll just have to turn your palm towards the screen, and zap away without ever getting off the couch.

And no need for under-the-skin electronics or fancy microchips.

Instead, the TV - or rather gesture recognition software installed inside - will "read" your moves and execute appropriate commands, without any need for physically pressing any buttons.

According to the Tel Aviv start-up's spokesman Roy Ramati, XTR3D's technology has all the advantages of a 3D camera without any of the disadvantages - it can work in broad daylight, is much cheaper and uses a lot less power.

"And it can be installed into any consumer electronics device," adds Mr Ramati.

Any device, bitches.

I guess that's... nice... dear? I think I will prefer current technology when it comes to phones, though I can't help wonder how this new technology can be applied to porn.

So kinda like the Playstation Move and Wii but without the motion controllers. Innovative.

To all the people saying it's just like the Kinect...

So what?

It follows that one hands-free technology resembles another by merit of being hands-free, so I don't really get the point you guys are making. Being like the Kinect takes nothing away from the technology or from the possible applications.
My signature lacks content. It is, however, blue.

Yes. I'm also saying that's not even kind of a bad thing.

Why would anyone lose their remote control? It's either under the couch or under your fatass.

Why would I want to move if I'm sitting down relaxing watching TV. Its the reason I don't play any games on the Wii.

One problem with advancing gaming technology is that gamers are so lazy. That's what's holding back my virtual reality gaming. Well you better stop because I want my VR

Kensai you really do love your BBC articles... pretty cool stuff though!

Yes, but we're saying this isn't scary new futuristic technology. We already have this.

This isn't really news, it's just a new product using the same stuff we've already seen. Sure, it might be a good TV, but why is this news?
#38
to everyone saying it's 'just kinect', this is something different - kinect uses an expensive set of sensors to work out where objects are, this article is about a piece of software that lets you do the same thing with an ordinary webcam. It makes an expensive technology cheap, leading the way for it to become commonplace.
You're using UG classic, congratulations.
You should be using UG classic.
