Hey Pit,

As this year is coming to an end I am looking at subscribing to new magazines. I havent really been that happy with rolling stone, and im looking for one that will address more current affairs. So i've narrowed my choice down to Vanity Fair and Times. Just gonna see if you guys have a bias towards one. I already read the economist and love it anyway.

It's mostly fluff and pretty pictures.

Get New Scientist.

NG? In some ways, yes. It's not about economy or celebrities, though, but more about animals, environments, climate etc. Lots of great pictures as well. I got a year subscription for like £35.

olol

I read Private Eye for my politics though. National geographic being monthly is the real problem for me, seeing as the copies I've flicked through are hit and miss each month.

I haven't read any of them, but Hitchens wrote for Vanity Fair so I'd have to go with that.

Its true, Hitchens was the one who brought Vanity fair to my attention. Also im there to read about politics, hopefully not contained to just America . Its really the world issues and social issues that i want. I really dont care about animals unless its ethics related

How are Rolling Stone and Time even choices? Good photography is the one redeeming feature of the Stone, but its journalism is so damn over the top (I haven't read it in years, so maybe I'm wrong, but that's why I stopped reading). And Time might as well be a Highlights magazine with the way it treats its readership.

For politics? I don't really know one that's reasonably worldly and objective...

Rolling Stone is what i have been reading for last 2 years. I don't really enjoy it overall, which is why im switching. I threw it up there for people who didnt pay attention to what i wrote

I'd take porn over anything you've listed. Economist, the Eye. The New Statesman is past its prime - though when it's not making Jemima Khan its assistant editor after not advertising for the job while proclaiming it's pro-social justice, not talking about that Alex James' cheese and not doing slebrity puff pieces, it can put out the occasional good stuff. Not worth subscribing to but worth a quick scan online.

Read the Spectator if, and only if, you are emphatically not a Tory. Makes for interesting reading.
