Knowing what you know now; i.e. the conditions and the high chance of, you know, death?

Or would you be a contentious objector?

I personally wouldn't go anywhere near it
#3
Like you'd have a choice.

If you're above 15, have all working limbs/ fingers and are in roughly average shape, you're going. End of.

I guess I'd have to (I think they shot quite a lot of people for not doing their bit) but, given the choice, I'd join either the artillery (you generally get to hang out quite a bit a long way behind the lines) or the navy (ships are generally quite comfortable when you're not being torpedoed)

Fact: If Germans are involved, they're probably the bad guys.

I probably would. First of it's not like I had a choice, and I doubt I'd be principled enough to be a conscientious objector.

If back then I had the knowledge of the conditions I have now, then I would be an objector, but if I was just a regular guy with no idea of the conditions, I would probably have gone along.
#17
looking back it's easy to say you wouldn't but at the time everyone thought they would win easily and would be home by christmas

There's no way I would have. I don't support war, so there's not a chance I'd support myself getting blown to bits in one.
#20
I'm significantly smarter than all of you, so I'd be the general-dude or something sending you guys to massacres.
#22
It was a different time back then and you would have been a different person. You wouldn't have been fully aware of the dangers of the war inluding disease and machine guns so you can't really say what you would have done.

With all that in mind im pretty sure i would have.

Yes. I would have engaged in a spiral into insanity, started scalping officers and collecting the scalps, sustained an injury and became addicted to morphine. I'd later then return to my aunt to make the three day journey home, battling my addiction all the while.

This.

I wouldn't go to war now, but if I lived then I probably would have.

It's not being a coward if you know you're just pretty much going there to die. It was almost certain you were going to die. I'd say choosing not go isn't being a coward, but being wise.
#33
Hell no.

That was a rough war.

Probably not, cause i'm a pussy.

But back then I might not have been a pussy for I probably wouldn't have listened to the Beatles and read about Gandhi.

It was a waste of a war that allowed the conditions that led up to the rise of Nazi Germany to come into power while still indirectly effecting us to this day. That being said, I probably would do to the fact that loads of people were drafted. I really wouldn't have had a choice.
