I'm planning to go guitar shopping soon. Right now, my top choice is probably the Yamaha A3R. For the price it seems hard to beat, but I haven't gone and played much yet. What else is good for that price range? I'd like it to have a cutaway and electronics.

there is no "best" guitar, since everyone likes different tones, sizes, neck sizes and so on. but i like blueridge a lot. these are all solid, martiny tone. i haven't plugged them in, sorry to say, but i have played them unplugged.

you might want to check breedlove - they have some guitars in your price range and a lot of people really like 'em. and of course, there's the taylor 110ce and 210ce. and i've heard very good things about the seagull performer line, which has a wider neck. you may or may not like that, but i LOVE the seagull necks

I just looked in my Oxford English Dictionary and under "Acoustic Guitar", there was your Avatar and an email address!

Check out Gibson studios/lp jrs, they might be a little out of your price range, though. I would also look at Gretsch electromatics, particularly the hollowbodies. Schecter is good for metal type stuff. Pretty much any epiphone is gonna be that at a maximum. You could probably find some PRS SE guitars at that price and those are nice. You could definitely find some Ibanez, Godin, and Fender. Possibly some Eastwoods, depending on which one and if they're used. Most of it depends on style, how it feels, etc, etc.

The Yamaha A3R has an ebony neck and an ebony fretboard. Is there much difference between an ebony fretboard and a rosewood fretboard?

EDIT: Sorry. I meant to say ebony bridge and ebony fretboard. Maybe my question will make more sense now.
