So for christmas I got a mic for my guitars to be used recording (Ive always played live and recording is a first time thing for me) and the mic has a cord that I do not know the professional term for, all i know them as is the cord you use to plug things into moniters, im going to call it a sound cord, it has 3 prongs, (sorry if this sounds dumb, i repeat, I am new to this) what do I need to enable me to plug this mic into my computer?

you need an audio interface, there's lots of them out there made by different people but here is what it look like

^or what that guy said would work too.

the cable is called an XLR or just call it a microphone cable or whatever.

you can get the audio interfaces in USB or firewire depending on what bus your computer has available. after all that you just need to find a program to use and you're good to go. will take some learning so be patient if you've never done this before.
