In my signature you can see what pedals i have, the Boss ds-1 is worthless really the boss sd-1 gives better distortion and its and overdrive pedal. To put my Genre of music in words that could relate to FX generated by pedals, i play a Spazzy energetic punk fused with either indie rock or hardcore. My Head is a warm British overdrive head.
Some examples, In order of links:
Joyce manor-call out(laundry) <--- i want to shape my band after these guys
Such gold-Sycamore
Tigers Jaw- Distress signal <--- def. listen to these dudes and girl.
Title fight-Shed <-- 90s melodic emo jawbreaker thing going on.
Touche amore- Honest sleep <---- heavy as fuh.
say anything- Alive with the glory of love <--- Best songwriter of all-time makes bob dylan look like blink 182
saves the day- You vandal

maybe a tubescreamer or something along those lines I would think your amp should be able to pull off most of the tones in those links by it's self
what do u not like about the distortion your amp has by it's self?

My amp is not really a high gain amp its a warmer sounding amp so it has overdrive. my amp just kinda needs a overdrive pedal just like most people with tube amps use.

TBh unless your looking for a completley different tone to them guys, i would sell the head off and replace it with something more modern sounding.

I play a very similar style of music. Actually I listen to most of the bands you listed. I'm playing a DSL50 w/ a tubescreamer in front. Plenty of gain (I don't use much)...nice and tight...smooth...lots of sustain. If you have a british sounding head (marshall) get a tubescreamer. You will be happy. You don't need to use it to increase the gain in your tone...it really just adds an edge and a tightness that the music calls for.

Marshalls do not sound like hiwatts.
