What cover songs do you think are better than the originals?
For me I think Along The Watchtower (by Bob Dylan covered by Hendrix)
#2
Feeling Good covered by Muse
There's a good chance that what I've written above is useless and if you take any of the advice it's your own fault.

This thread is a shitty cover of a number of earlier threads.

Young Man Blues originally done by Mose Allison and latter covered by The Who.

Piano dick had some good parts, but should have said "As the business man slowly gets boned", would have accented the whole dick feeling of the album

wow, that took sooooo much effort to find, a whole... 15 seconds. oh no!

there are tons of covers of jazz, country, and bluegrass standards that are way better than the original.

Ghost Mice's "There is a Light" (Smiths cover)
Andrew Jackson Jihad's "Two-Headed Boy" (Neutral Milk Hotel cover)

Of course, I may be the only one who thinks this.

Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden, covered by Cradle Of Filth

oh yeah because the screaming of mother f*cker after the intro adds so much to the song. Good band but shitey cover.. same as their attempt with temptation and fear of the dark. Their Sleepless and no time to cry covers were much better.

My faves are the promise, originally by arcadia performed by Novembre, Ce Soir by the Golden Earring performed by Iron Maiden, Crazy by Seal Performed by Iron Savior and everything counts by depeche mode performed by In Flames. Cash's Hurt is a jewel too ofcourse. I like it when the artist reinvents the song as a whole instead of copying it.

Hurt covered by Johnny Cash.

Aslo, anything covered by RATM.

I was gonna say Hurt covered by Johnny Cash, but it looks like you beat me to it

But I'll also say Symbolic covered by Sylosis. It might not be better than the original, but it's at least as good.

no does the King better than the King, but Metallica's cover of "Mercyful Fate", (which is a compilation of Mercyful Fate tunes, that MF used to play at shows) is just awesome.
Also, somewhere out there, there is a cover of SOAD's "Ariels" done by Amon Amarth. which isnt bad.

Anyway You Want It- Rise Against
All Along The Watch Tower- Jimi Hendrix
Hair of the Dog & Knocking on Heaven's Door- Guns N' roses
1985- Bowling For Soup

A lot of the Garage Days tunes by Metallica are better. Some of the classics (Tuesday's Gone, Turn the Page) aren't as good as the original, but good none the less. Also all the Punk Goes Pop, and te Punk Goes Crunk songs are WAY better then the original

I hope you are joking but if not just to let you know, when I saw them live (girlfriend's birthday present a few years ago) they played Beat It and... stopped when the solo should have started. I rofl'd.

OT (these are just some awesome covers I don't necessarily prefer them to the originals).

Machine Head's cover of Pantera's ****ing Hostile.
Machine Head's cover of Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name.
August Burns Red's cover of Britney Spears' Baby One More Time
Alestorm's cover of You Are A Pirate
Opeth's cover of Soldier of Fortune by Deep Purple

Pretty sure Bob Dylan actually said that he liked Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watchtower better than his own.

Just because Cash died shortly after making the video doesn't make it a great cover. In fact it is quite generic. The original has a much darker feel to it, especially considering the context of The Downward Spiral.

No I realise that, I'm not taking his death or the video into consideration.
I just think the vocals are a lot more powerful, and you can feel the emotion more in the cover. I also like the slight change of lyrics "Crown of shit/thorns". Wouldn't be surprised if I'm alone there though

I'd like to mention cover-songs that (IMO) sound way better than the original.
1) Dissident Aggressor - Slayer (Judas Priest cover)
2) Planet Caravan - Pantera (Black Sabbath cover)
3) Out On The Tiles - Megadeth (Led Zeppelin cover)
4) Anthrax - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Black Sabbath cover)
5) Loverman - Metallica (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds cover)

Before this post attracts any negativity, I want to be clear that I love the original bands, but these covers sound better.

Nah it seems most people like Cash's over the original. Well, to each his own, but for me, "shit" has more power than "thorns".
