Finally one I can answer!

Try Wired. May I suggest listening to Blue Wind and Play With Me?
You are now using UG Black.
You are now using UG Classic.

Listening to: Caravan Palace

Don't think it's been answered so I'll second it.

I've got 'Bad As Me' by Tom WAits already and I enjoy, just for a point of reference. 'Hell broke Loose' and 'Raised Right Man' are the ones that stuck out for me.

Tangerine Dream: I've heard Rubycon and Phaedra, what else?

Also, this Nick Cave fellow. He keeps popping up in random discussions, I want to see what all the hubbub is about.

Murder Ballads. 'The Best Of:' can't hurt, either. That's probably a pretty obvious answer for any band in this thread, though.

I won't tell you how many chances you have left, but I will tell you this:

Don't get perma'd

I need some acoustic folk stuff similar to Brian Fallon and Frank Turner.

Maybe Dave Hause? What's some good material from him?

This.

I like 2112 better, but Moving Pictures has songs that might be easier to like.

And I listened to a song from The Microphones album Zach told me to listen to and i'm going to enjoy it when I decide to sit down and listen to it.

It means posting a link to download a copyright protected album, or informing somebody exactly how to find one of the aforementioned links without posting it.

How about Joe Satriani? I've heard Black Swans & Wormhole Wizards and Surfing With the Alien and I love them both, but I'm not familiar with his other material.
Also if there's any other artists that are like Satch, those would be nice to hear about as well.

EDIT: Oh and forget The Extremist too, I've got that one on my list as well.

Revolver has the best songs, if youre just looking for a nice album which also works on the background. Plainly a cd full of amazing tunes.
Rubber Soul is also great, and quite similar to Revolver, although I prefer Revolver myself.

If you want Beatles at the top of their songwriting capacity, get Abbey Road, and after that get Sgt. Pepper

If you want Beatles writing nice songs and screwing around, get The White Album (which has a few gems on it) or Let It Be (which is just pure fun). I also love Magical Mystery Tour, which has great songs, but the quality of recording is not too great. But if you like both the white album and let it be, MMT is a must.

Rolling Stones:

-If you want Rolling Stones at the top with great, bluesy stuff, get either Exile On Main St. or Goat's Head Soup
-If you want the early rock n roll stuff, get Out Of Our Heads
-If you want the somewhat later stuff with plain rocking songs, get Sticky Fingers.
-For a great live album, get Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out

Can someone do one for Genesis?

the 3 disc orphans album has a bit of everything on it. if you want his early jazz-hobo years go with heart attack and vine. if you want his exeprimental (and imo better) work go with swordfish trombones. Raindogs is a good transition album between his two phases
