Not sure if this is the right forum or not, I'll move it if necessary. So, I'm replacing the sole tube in my friend's Vox VT50 and I noticed that the original tube is like glued to the circuit board. It's stuck and I don't want to ruin the board or break it or anything, how should I go about approaching this?

Why not chromatics? Chromatic harmony was the "new thing" in the romantic era.

They don't have a shield on them do they? You can see the glass, yes? They pull straight out. You may have to give it a gentle wiggle as you pull. Make sure it's cooled down before you grab it or else use a rag, they get very hot.

Sorry about the late reply; yeah, I was just a dunce and didn't realize it was the socket I was trying to pull out. Glad I didn't succeed. Anyways, I replaced it and it still sounds bad so its something in the circuitry I guess. Thank you again.

I personally don't think the 12AX7 in those amps do anything anyway. You could remove it and it will probably sound the same me thinks.

What is wrong exactly? Have you ruled out bad power and bad cables/guitar/insert jack/etc? If it is in the amps circuitry it will very difficult to diagnose and repair. Maybe time for your friend to get a new amp. Tell your friend to get an account here and follow the 'What Amp' sticky for good advice.

Yeah, it's definitely in the circuitry; it only started acting up because we were maxing out the volume on it for hours on end. It's just all buzzy and whatnot and he's already saving up to take it in for repairs.

yep, not to mention that amp isn't really worth being fixed.
