Hello pit,

Why is the basic band format (Guitar, Bass, Drums, Vocals) so effective?

Do you think it will lose it's effectiveness overtime?

It has rhythm, harmony and melody, has instruments in all or most frequency ranges and the tones of the instruments blend well.

I don't think so.

Power-trio

Allows for literal space in recording and less compromisation in the creative department.

Also, people must like the familiarity of the standard rock-band lineup.

Yes, you kind of do

If my butt hurts it's not because someone trashed dubstep.

There shall be more bass.

As a guitarist, I welcome our funky future overlords.

Surely if you look back to the 70s, Keyboards would have been standard? Or traditional-grip drumming, prior to the 50s or 60s? (not sure on that one) These days, there are far fewer bands featuring keyboards, and I don't really know any non-jazz bands who's drummer uses traditional stick grip. It's just changing trends. I reckon that over the next 10 years, there'll be more electronic influence in music. The keyboard shall return!

They're only effective if you like them.
I'm sure old school country fans can't wait to see the back of them, the anti-rock of 70s disco never touched them.

I say it's because they are more affordable than a tuba or a proper violin.
