A few hours ago I was at a bar with friends and there was an open mike. I accepted the challenge, took up a guitar, started playing (everyone was surprised and clapped my playing a reasonably difficult riff - neon by John Mayer) and then proceeded to sing like two words before immediately assuming I was awful and running off stage. I now return home, significantly more inebriated, and recorded myself playing the song. I killed it.

I blame internet forums for nursing and encouraging my shyness. If it weren't for the comfort of relative anonymity in the pit I would more than likely spend my evenings with friends and learning self-confidence. Any others think this is the case?

We're actually an organization with the objective of bringing you out of your shell. Guys we gotta develop a new strategy.

The pit's done wonders for my self confidence as it's helped me to realise how much better I am than the rest of the population.

I'm yelling 'UG FTW' at your next open mic performance to remind you there's no escape.

EDIT: Three melbournites posting in a row has to be a record

Yeah, sure. Blame everyone else. That'll solve the problem. If we're so detrimental to your development as a person, bugger off and socialise.

We don't need your finger-pointing kind here.

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!
I shall grant you three wishes.

None of which will work.

Does the above post enrage, offend or confuse you?

Good.

I like my women how I like my guitars. Curvy and like it when I finger them.

Well, you found out the truth. We would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for that meddling open mike bar.

I was just in Sydney. I think Sydney is to LA as Melbourne is to New York.

actually, I do too. I started going on here in sixth grade instead of learning social skills. For three years I spent more time on here a week than I did hanging out with friends.

That being said, I feel fine right now.

House: The reason for awkwardness is that you spend too much time on the internet? Or it could be lupus. Anyway there is only one cure for you problem.
Againstyou: What is it doc?!??!?
House: You need to go outside and spend time with your friends.
Againstyou: Nooooooo!

The initiation is complete. Rise, AgainstYou, and walk among us as a brother in awkwardness.

Most people who are at those kind of bars just enjoy people singing. I think they find you more awful if you stop singing and walk off the stage than if you had just continued and finished the song. If you keep on singing with confidence it would've been okay unless you're absolutely terrible. Which I doubt you were/are.
