What do you guys think of these amps? They seems to be running awfully cheap to be marshalls. But they are tube amps, so I was wondering how good they sound. Seen a couple youtube demos but I wanna hear your opinions if any of you own or have played them.

They're meh. Better amps for the money, even from Marshall. You could get a JCM 800 or 900, or a DSL or TSL for what you would pay for a MA.

They're straight up doody. Terribad.

Okay, they're not the worst thing in the world, but when I tried it it sounded thin, ice pick-y and harsh. Your Crate is much better.

They're not bad. They're also not good. They're just kind of...passable. The cleans sound lifeless and the overdrive is sorta bland, but it still gets in the ballpark of the "Marshall tone."

There are MUCH better amps for the same price, especially if you're willing to go used. I'd recommend a Jet City 22h or 50h head or a Blackstar HT 20, 40, or 60. The Blackstars are hybrids rather than all tube so if that's a problem, I'd go with Jet City.

Also look into used Orange amps and maybe a Carvin V3m.

I agree that your Blue voodoo would sound much better. If you want cheap marshallesque tone I would try out the Marshall Haze head, the Bugera 1960 or 1990, or a Peavey Windsor.

A "tubescreamer" is a person paid by a guitarist to stand behind the amp and scream at the tubes. This terrifies the tubes into overdriving and delivers a thick, harmonic-rich tone.

Played an MA50C the other day. STILL sounded really thin and crappy, no amount of bass and mids could make that thing sound any bigger than crappy practice amp.
#8
Yeah. I was considering it as a backup amp. Guess not! haha

If you go for the Jet City just don't order from GC. They like to say shit is in stock when it's not and then tell you your backordered till ****ing easter after you've already payed. I'm exaggerating, but with good reason.

for the price, I'd get a DSL they are my favourite Marshall. As for the MA i see that as marshall trying to recreate all of their vintage tones in one amp, they model many of their older amps when you can just go and buy one and get the real thing.

Yeah they did that to me, then they wouldn't let me cancel though. Turned out the bastard was actually in stock, I guess in a different store or warehouse.

no MA. they are terrible. i would get a valve king, blue voodoo (the blue ones are better), DSL, TSL.

M123 has dragged a few waiting listed items at me. call them complain, and repeat enough times, and demand either a percentage off or additional credit to your account for a future purchase. i got a Renegade for $725 brand new from m123. so bitching made me $275.

Have you you ever had the dubious pleasure of working on one? Somehow I don't expect to see the highest-quality components in there....

I did briefly wonder if perhaps the MAs are just biased incredibly cold out of the factory, but either way the results are horrific.

Never worked on one. I'm sure with a bit of serious modding you could coax a better tone out of them but why bother? You can get better for less.

A buddy of mine in the music club at college was considering buying a tube amp to the school's studio, he decided on the MA100C combo, and I've insisted that he should buy a Jet City 20 or 50 watter...

Well he ended up buying the MA100C and now he's pissed off and regrets buying that crapoid. I've also tested it, and I did not like it one bit.

Don't ever get near any of those MA amps. My best friend made the mistake of buying a MA50, and in 4 months it died on him. He took it to the shop where he bought it and got it replaced with a brand new one. This one died within 6 months. He took it to a technician specialized in guitar amplifiers and got it fix... only for it to start giving off fucking smoke within a week.

Don't even bother looking at them.

Can they handle it? Just about.

Would you buy a DSL with the intention if using it as a metal amp? No.
