I want to enter into the ultimate challenge 2012. I will post my thread later and add it to this post later today.
#124
I noticed that rapfohl09 is using a pre-slotted fret board, which I think is fine. I'll add that to the rules, if there are no objections? My reason being that the cost of a fretting jig is far too expensive for a one-off build, and without an accurate fretboard the guitar may as well be scrap.
#127
I just had an idea. We should maybe have a winner for 'most insightful build'. The build diary that is the most useful to other users.

That way more people will post little tips and tricks in better detail, and everyone learns something. We all come out better builders in the end!
#128
that's an awesome idea, and I'm sure boysie will agree

or winners for different topics like:

Overall Best: Read the first post.

Best Creativity: Read the first post.

Most Interesting way of doing stuff : Could be an option, can you explain a little more?

Best build to learn from: I could have sworn that whoomit just said that.

just an idea. . .
#132
Perhaps 'Best First Build' too?
Also, can I be switched to the unlimited challenge due to timber being so damn expensive in the UK?
#133
that's the challenge mate :p

can I use a commision in this challenge? I did build everything.
Just call me Julius, J, etc.
Taking an Internet break for a while, will come on when I can.
#139
In our original discussions we mentioned excluding commissions as it's not the whole luthier's creation, someone else came up with the specs. Unless boysie feels differently I think that it should stand.

okay, i'll submit it if boysie says I can, if not I'll be sure to send in another one of my builds this year.

It's kind of a tricky one, and really I guess it depends on a couple of things:

1) If you've already started the build, then you can't enter it in the competition (you need the photo of the raw materials with the cover page so we know you've started it after the competition start)

2) If your client has picked the design then you can't win the creativity categories, but should still be up for technical and best build awards.

This is a democracy though, so if anyone is absolutely opposed then we can change it up.
#142
yea, i'm almost done it so I guess not
I'll submit the next one in though.

Are we going to do a best electronics category or something along those lines?
Was lacking a decent sig. Still is.
#145
I want to enter into this but my applewood will take 1 1/2 years to dry.
Expect an applewood carvetop somethingorother from me in 1 1/2 years.
..I was watching my death.

timbit: That sucks man. Anywhere nearby that could kiln-dry it for you?

I'd rather not kiln dry applewood as it is very prone to warping. Air drying decreases the chances, and it is much more resonant than kiln dried.
Also, it'd kinda defeat the purpose of almost free lumber.

I just thought that doing the electronics is a completely separate skill to making the rest of the guitar and that it might want its own section
Was lacking a decent sig. Still is.

If I plan on starting 2 builds in a week or two, would I submit them both, or when they are both done decide which one to include in this competition?
Just call me Julius, J, etc.

can enter as many times as you want, so just make sure you put the cover sheet and enter them both

and if I lack a printer? Can I just write it out or should I try to get it done at school or something?

right it in pen... we'll believe yah :p

EDIT: and take your time man, not digging but so far in most of your builds I've seen you make mistakes generally attached to the words "rushed" "impatient" "couldn't wait". As I said, not having a go, just trying to help

I might end up doing an ultimate build rather than a 100GBP build. Changed my mind :P

I really want to do the 100GBP challenge, but where I'm stationed right now, I have no tools. Hopefully soon I'll be able to enter, I really love the idea of that, and I think it will bring a lot of creativity out.
Death, Black, Doom, Grind, and more.
