So are we going to be getting a Captain Ant movie from Marvel now?

On a serious note, I guess this would be good news if this species ever starts dieing out and needs help to survive.

I dunno man, no matter how many of the little bastards I kill, they just keep on comin'. The end of the world can come and they'll be there eating the worms and the cockroaches.

I love how scientists often think that they've already found the cure for cancer.

Am I the only one who thinks it's fucking awesome that we're actually able to do this?

Because it is.

No no no. For one the ants would be large enough to see (especially the large but unpredictable 'tank ants') and the battles would all take place in enormous ant farms for easy observation.

It's not really senseless at all, it's actually incredible interesting. The whole thing was done by modifying the genetics of the ant and basically just flipping a switch in the DNA so they grew like they would have millions of years ago. They are ants as they may used to look.

But what is the point in knowing that? I'm not trying to be an ass btw, I'm genuinely curious.

It gives us a far greater understanding of DNA and genetics. It's now been proven that using a specific hormone you can force the rare genetic mutation to occur that makes the mass growth possible. It may not seem like a whole lot of use now but could be used later in medicine or something. Perhaps hormone pills for mothers that cause genetic mutation in their babies to resist diseases and things. It opens up a lot of avenues to exploit more 'super-human' qualities.

That's what I get from it anyway, maybe they are just ****ing about.

It's not like they are making anything new, just bringing back a repressed gene from a common ancestor that many ants seem to have. It's kinda like turning a penguin into a dodo.
