Hello! Lately I have been having trouble sleeping. I've been very stressed out over exams and essays and all that shizz, and I was wondering:

does anybody have any personal tricks/advice on how best to make yourself fall asleep?

Any input is appreciate

I've found sleeping pills tend to put me to sleep, but only for about 3 hours. At this point I've gotten enough rest to not be able to fall asleep again, but not enough sleep to feel well rested.

Running just before going to sleep always helps me.

Stay awake until you can't anymore and then set a specific amount of time before an alarm wakes you up. That might work.

I find that right before going to bed, if I ram my head into the wall a couple of times I fall asleep right away. I mean it just knocks me out.

Lie on your side, close your eyes, try to see pictures in your eyelids, keep thinking about really abstract, different things, and don't stop to actually focus on them. Works for me

I don't really wanna resort to pills just for a temporary problem! Lately I've had to lie on my side, turn over for about 10 minutes and then turn back before I can get comfortable. It's really weird!


EDIT: It makes me feel like a piece of bacon.

Tried it... ended up going to sleep after the alarm was supposed to go off. Think I set the alarm for 1PM the next day and didn't fall asleep until about 3.

Deep-ish breaths, and focus on your breathing. Clears your head and sends you to sleepy town!

Stop thinking.

Reading helps unless it turns out to be a really good book.

Also turn off all electronics, lights, and music. They mess up your sleep pattern a little and prevent you from shutting down for the night.

Some tea also help with that, like chamomile or lavender.

This may sound weird, but like pretend you're asleep, that's what I do.

Just shut your eyes, refuse to open them and try to breathe as if you would if you were asleep and let your mind wander.

And then as stuff you're thinking of starts to get confusing or not make sense then you know you're falling asleep.

You could also try having an alcoholic drink. Smoking doesn't help so don't try that as it's a stimulant. Weed can help though.
