Hey UG I have been looking for an amp for awhile and now that I think I have finally found it. I'm now thinking about picking up a used Marshall Haze 40 watt tube amp. Now I'm wondering if it would be loud enough to gig with. The band I'm going to be joining uses 75-100 watt SS amps. So would it be loud enough for practices and gigs ?

It would definitely be loud enough to gig with, I gig with a 20 watter and I know people who gig with 15 watters. The speaker in the 40 is pretty crappy though.

A "tubescreamer" is a person paid by a guitarist to stand behind the amp and scream at the tubes. This terrifies the tubes into overdriving and delivers a thick, harmonic-rich tone.

Yes, it's loud enough, but what styles of music are you playing? The Haze is not going to do metal without a distortion pedal.

Also do you suggest changing the speaker ?
