You know, those boxes/guitars that you always have to make excuses for when people roll their eyes at them and tell you to use something else instead? What are yours?

For me it's an S101 EHI-24 that I got at a pawn shop for twenty bucks and an old Hamer with a warped neck that I swear on my life plays and sounds better than any Epiphone Dot/Casino/Elitist I've ever played, and a Behringer SM-200 (yeah, it's plastic, but it's a twenty-dollar near-perfect Slow Gear clone and I don't have $800 to shell out for a real one).

80's Hondo II strat copy- warmest, glassiest strat I've ever played. The neck feels sticky, the headstock has broken almost completely off...twice. but Its the best SOUNDING single coil I have.

First Act Me501- well its not necessarily bad at all but its a first act. I guarantee you it puts lower end epiphones and Ibanez gio series to shame in sound, quality, and looks.

I've always found it odd that First Act makes almost no mid-range guitars. Their guitars seem to be either $100 Wal-Mart beginner models, or $5,000 insanely high-quality customs.
#6
There's probably not much of a midrange market for them. Kids buy the lowend ones, Big Kids make fun of those. and Adults buy the nice ones.

This one seems to go for about 80-100 bucks used which probably means it was close to 150-200 new.

I got mine for 45 bucks. Then another for 50.

My ds-1. I love it to death but I don't use it. Sounds bad but I still love it......wonder if I still have it.

And I like my Boss chorus pedal. Not great, but it's good enough.

Depends which chorus. CE 1, 2 and 3 are good. The rest are not.

And fwiw, I enjoyed the Klon comment.

surely that bad gear that you like is something you consider to be good and that's why you still use it? so why call it bad if you think it's good?

i'm usually just rolling my eyes at the people who roll their eyes and tell me not to use something because "it sucks", and then ignoring them. if you make them realise you don't care what they think they don't bother telling you you're a noob for using gear they don't want you to use.
Rig Winter 2017:

Fender Jazzmaster/Yamaha SG1000
Boss TU-3, DS-2, CS-3, EHX small stone, Danelectro delay
Laney VC30-112 with G12H30 speaker, or Session Rockette 30 for smaller gigs
Elixir Nanoweb 11-49 strings, Dunlop Jazz III XL picks
Shure SM57 mic in front of the amp

Boss DS-1.

Im not sure if this is accurate cos i dont necessarily think of it as 'bad' gear and i wouldnt go as far to say i 'love' it. All i know is that for £40 ive got a lot of enjoyment out of it and it sounded a lot better than the distortion channel on my old amp

It's good as boost and is and was used by countless guitarists.

Also it's cheap and can be modded to TS-808 specs easily.

Love my Squier SE Strat, even though it's a mess right now... tried installing a new pickup for the first time and screwed all the wiring D:<

Boss DS-1 has an awesome classic distortion sound.I love it.

I also like a lot of Squier instruments. I dunno, they sound pretty good to me, and I'm not constantly worried about breaking them.

This.

I love my orange MG Halfstack. I have Warehouse Speakers Veteran 30s in the cab and it sounds great:

I love my Spider II its an awesome practice amp. I could even gig with it in a pinch:

And I have a couple Squier '51s that play and sound great:

#28
That sunburst squier looks badass.

Actually I'm gonna go ahead and add my squier bullet to my list. I bought it off some kid for 40 bucks and he never touched it. I molested it by sanding down the neck and beating it up, but shortly after I found out its an amazing player. The pickups kinda suck but the neck is fast and its a very light guitar. I use that one the most when I "practice" for a random 15 minutes. Its a hardtail also so no dealing with a crappy trem and tuning issues.

The DS-1 is bad? I think its probably a damn good deal at 40 bucks. Its popular for a reason.

Wait is that a blue classic 30 I see in there? If you like the MG so much you can ship that C30 to me

My acoustic (Starcaster by Fender) should be the shittiest thing on the earth, but it's not half bad.

My Peavey Vypyr 15 isn't considered shitty, but is lumped in the "Cheap" category. Still good.

My Agile AL-2000 is also lumped into a "Cheap" camp, but I like it bunches. Get new pups and you're ready to roll.

And that's all the gear I have.

Yet, perhaps with the exception of the blues driver, I actually think it sounds better than all the other Boss dirt boxes, despite having a price tag of like 40 dollars. I've no idea why the DS-1 gets suggested as a default over it.

i have a seymour duncan invader in my hello kitty squire... i love it, but that pickup is one of the most hated things on UG. it ranks up there with spider amps on the hate-o-meter but i have never had any problems with it.

My Ibanez RX-20. I do believe there was only one Ibanez line that was lower end in the mid 90s. Found it at a local second hand shop called Music Go Round. Played soooo nice, the other guitarist in my band was basically like "if you don't get this, I am." I've modded the aitch-eee-double hockey sticks out of it since then, but it's always been the guitar that's played the nicest for me over the years. It just feels perfect in your hands, and with the mods and enough tweaking by ear to compensate for it being made of agathis, it serves me very very well. Most people don't even know it's probably one of the cheapest guitars ever (originally) assembled.

For a "cheap" guitar that seems to get a lot of hate on UG it plays oustandingly well. I might've gotten a gem, but I love it all the same.
