I'm looking for some reasonably brief but difficult exercises to practice - nothing specific at all, just anything that is challenging, although it'd be nice if it's not all shred type stuff. Hope I'm not being too vague, any ideas?

Heres a lick

E 12 12
B 15b17 15p12
G 14b 14p12
D 14
A
E

Very simple. Now try phrasing it in as many different ways as possible, making sure bends are pitch perfect and a smooth wide vibrato is applied to the final note.

Find a song you can't play.
Break up the solos into licks.
Practice the licks.
On playing the Paul Gilbert signature at the guitar store extensively, my missus sighed:
"Put it down now, It's like you love that guitar more than me!"
In Which I replied.
"Well it has got two F-Holes!"
