Any of you clever people know what height is best to set my EMG pickups on my Jim Root Tele? Last guy owned it set them way too high.

There's no rule. Set them however you want just as long as the volume on each pickup is the same.

EMG recommends that you set them as high as you can, but TBH it is a matter of preference

TBH = to be honest

As for the hight I have my EMG's on my 7 string set around 5-6 mm away from the strings so try that ans see if it works well for you

A rule of thumb I use is to just set them as high as they will go, while still not interfering with my picking. Mine bridge pup is about 3mm away from the bottom of my strings, and my neck pup is 4mm away.

When I had EMGs, I put them as high as they could go without interfering with the strings, then lowered them a couple of millimetres. With my EMG Xs, I put them as high as they can go, just high enough where the strings don't hit them. They have less output than the normal series so I felt I got better response out of them this way.
