I'm looking for bands that're especially good at creating an atmosphere with the fewest instruments (eg one guitar).

How about 'Goodbye My Lover' by James Blunt. Very emotional and only uses vocals and piano,
Either that or 'Losing You' by John Butler.

Thanks.
Blunt's voice makes me laugh but he's a great songwriter.
That's the first of Butler I've ever heard... pretty good stuff.

Anything else?

PS I'm not really into classical guitar like the one the poster above me shared. I suppose a lot of it goes over my head (and therefore won't mean much to an audience) and just sounds like wanking.

Eric Johnson - Cliffs Of Dover. Easily the greatest song ever, and only with one guitarist!

Gear:
-Custom Frankenstrat (Now in bits pending a home-made Charvel So-Cal mod)
-Boss ME-25 (Modded with gaffer tape and blu-tack)

Modes and scales are dumb and useless. Stop learning them. No, seriously.
