Both guitars look almost the same is there any big difference between the two despite the name?

the craftsmanship on the Wolfgang is top notch. the sterling feels like a budget guitar to me.. however it is not a bad guitar by any means.

the neck is different on the woflgang too. you get what you pay for but both guitars are nice. the wolfgang is way better in my opinion though

The Wolfgang has had EVH himself deeply involved in the designing of the guitar, right down to production methods and such. As such, it truly is the big league; EVH is a notorious tone / gear freak, so everything on the Wolfgang is top notch, right down to wood and electrics. They're under very strict quality control, too and IIRC they've got expensive quarter-sawn necks and other high-end features. An issue of Guitarist, not too long ago, had one reviewed, and they said it's deifinitely one of the best rock guitars out there, and one of the best quality builds.

As said, the AX40 is _not_ a bad guitar; The Wolfgang just is, supposedly, way better in pretty much every respect. It's up to every player themselves to decide if it's superior enough to justify the price tag, though.

i think even the cheaper wolfgang is japanese-made. so i'd go with that one over teh sterling (which as said, appears to be a beginner/lower intermediate version of the musicman), though granted it is more expensive.

i say that having tried neither, though.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

I'd go for the EVH.
Played the Sterling before and I wasn't really impressed.
Fender American Special HSS Stratocaster
Ibanez 1987 Roadstar II Deluxe
Yamaha THR10X
Marshall JCM900 SL-X
Ibanez WD-7 Weeping Demon Wah
TC Electronic Polytune
Seymour Duncan Tweakfuzz

The EVH wil be higher quality than the Sterling. Now if you were comparing the MM Axis they are probably on par with the EVH's. If you want a really nice Wolfgang, look for an old Peavey Wolfgang, you can get an incredible guitar for really cheap $500-1000 used for a made in USA Wolfgang.
2002 PRS CE22
2013 G&L ASAT Deluxe
2009 Epiphone G-400 (SH-4)
Marshall JCM2000 DSL100
Krank 1980 Jr 20watt
Krank Rev 4x12 (eminence V12)
GFS Greenie/Digitech Bad Monkey
Morley Bad Horsie 2

evh is MIJ isnt it?
I'd go with that. Sterlings are overpriced IMO
Now if it was EBMM vs evh my opinion could be different..
