Obviously, the vast majority of people on this site are guitar players. So, besides rock and all of its sub-genres, what other styles of music does everyone else listen to? I have taken a liking to what I call Socially Conscious Hip Hop. This is the hip hop that requires more than just awareness to listen to and understand. It's guys like Common, Kanye West, The Roots, Tyler the Creator, etc. Artists that make music about more than just bitches, hoes, and makin' mo' money. What about everyone else?

Also whatever genre Enya is. Great relaxing music.

I generally like original scores from films by composers like Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore, John Williams, Andrea Guerra and Joe Hisaishi.

I also love a bunch of game music from guys like Koji Kondo, Jeremy Soule, Masami Ueda. The Ocarina of Time soundtrack is something that will put me in a good mood no matter how crappy my day is.

Actually, rock is an offspring of the blues..

Literally everything but modern pop, country and rap.

60s psychedelic garage rock, really obscure good stuff
lots of sitar music, ravi shankar, nikhil banerjee, etc
scottish bagpipes stuff
classical
delta blues

I listen to whatever I can get my hands on. Right now, I'm jumping around a little between bubblegum pop, Opeth's ghost Reveries album, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and some neat Canadian rap. I hate to be the guy who says "I listen to everything", but I really do listen to just about anything that's available. It's always awesome to hear what other artists do with different ideas and think of ways I could incorporate my favorite bits into my compositions.

Actually, country is at least influenced by blues, and rap is the offspring of R'n'B witch is Rhythm and Blues.
