Hi guys, you can see my current equipment in my sig so I wont list it here.

I am finding that the pups in my guitar are scooping the mids, as well as the cabs.

I am looking for some high gain pups that will not scoop mids but will stil sound heavy.

I am looking at some active emgs but not sure on them, maybe the zw set?

Any advice?

Thanks

have you tried turning up the mids on your amp...?
music = happiness

THAT IS IRRELEVANT TO THE CONVERSATION... unless you want to make it relevant

i have turned the mids up. I use bareknuckle miracle man in my guitar, and if you have a look at the spec it shows low mids.

BKP Painkillers have about as much mids you could pack into a pickup. But really, turn up dem midz.
Y'all don't say that

i have looked into the pain killers, i cant really turn the mids up any more. I do like the tone, i just want more mids and response from my pups.

I have some sd blackouts kicking about that i might try. How is the mids response from them?

Might also consider adding SD's Blackout modular preamp to you current pups. May do the trick cheaper.

Classic example of UG's mids gag reflex.

EMGs have a flat frequency response, so they might not have enough mids, depending on how much you want to add.

EMG X or Blackouts could work well. How high output do you need? The Seymour Duncan Custom/'59 set is very good, IMO.

Buy an Eq pedal or a tube screamer...your looking at open heart surgery to fix a grazed knee here.

I'd say EQ pedal, from what I've heard the "-ball"-ENGLs don't really like being boosted.

+1 To the Tubescreamer, gives you plenty of mids, which tends to get in the way

Besides an EQ or a TS which should be the first thing done and should take care of it but...... How old are your preamp tubes and what speakers are in your cab? Old tubes can act funny sometimes. And the response curve on speakers makes a huge difference sometimes. I think Engl is aimed at more lower end chugging. Have you tried you axes on different amps/cabs yet???
What the hell!!!
