Hey all,

Over a year ago I bought this Bass of an old German lady. I did not know anything about bass-guitars, and just thought it played whell.

So, it says KAY on the headstock, but can't figure out wich year/brand it really is.
It certainly looks massproduced, so probably no homemade bass allthogh there is no serial..

only things I know are:

- KAY (on headstock)
- 5 strings
- strat type body
- 2 active pickups
- 9-volt batt. cavity
- electronics (pick-up switch-knob) are Bellcat.
- probably german

here are some pictures: http://imageshack.us/g/685/imag0539r.jpg/

thats all.

Hope someone can help me!

thanks!

Really looks to me like a Cirrus.

I'm guessing depending on the quality of it, it's either a custom made bass for someone who liked Cirrus or a cheap starter bass done in the style of.

Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

Kay has a long history in bass and guitar making but what you have is a bass that probably that was produced by the Teisco group in Japan for export, when their export company bought up the name.

EDIT:

Whatever factory makes Peavey's import models has probably bought out the Kay name and is using it to manufacture affordable essentially brand-less instruments. The same thing happened to Harmony guitars. Admittedly that happened in the 70s.
