So I managed to lose my phone by dropping it down one of the poles which holds my bed up. I know, I'm an idiot.

I'm totally clueless as to how I'm going to get it back, so hopefully you can help. I've provided a detailed diagram (excuse the handwriting and drawing.)
My hand's too big to fit in the hole, so that's not an option.

Sorry about the big picture.

How can your hand be too small to fit in the pole?

I don't know what you're talking about.

Two wire coat hangers, squish them so you have two hooks, drop one on either side of the phone and fish it out.

You know what to do.

But srsly: Have some kind of long stick with a hook at the end, shouldn't be hard to make (clothes hanger?) shove it in below the phone, twist it 90° and pull it back.

The tongs were too short, and I can't wait that long, whoomit.

Time to look for coat hangers.

Progress report: I've found a suitable coat hanger and it is indeed long enough to reach the phone. The only problem is there appears to be a nail underneath the phone holding it in place. The nail is blocking the coat hanger from getting into place and grabbing the phone.
I will stay ever optimistic in these dark times.

It's possible the phone may be out and we won't need to flip the bed

EDIT: I can't cut the bedpole in half, no available saws.

Fair enough

A nail? Is the post made out of wood?
Is it hollow all the way down? 'Cause if you remove the nail, then it'll fall to the bottom, and you'll just have to lift the bed a little

I GOT IT GUYS!

Thanks to everyone who suggested a coat hanger, you truly made today a wonderful day.

And no, the bedpole's metal, the nail's pretty redundant. I think they just put it there to hinder me in situations like this.

Send in one of your mouse minions to get it.

All I remember is a thread about this guy's dryer, which vibrated really bad while running, ended up gaining enough momentum to scoot against his door. The door was inside-swung, and he couldn't get it open because of the heavy dryer and couldn't take it down because the hinge screws weren't exposed. He was asking for advice on how to get the door open without breaking it.

It was probably in '07, because it was right before I took a long-ass break from coming here.

1. buy a magnet
2. put glue on one side of it
3. drop the magnet into the pole with the gluey side facedown
4. buy a mouse
5. tie a magnet to the mouse
6. put the mouse in the pole
7. put mouse food on the open end
8. yay phone
