Well, yes, that is indeed palmmuted. However, this type of palm mute ( heavily muted powerchord played with 4 strings at the same time ) is often referred to as a djent.

There's a good example of palm muting, the first notes are palmmuted already.

I think it's muted with the hand touching the strings closer to the bridge than with normal palm mute and helping with heavy distortion.

in other words, instead of the "good ol'" root-5th power chord, it's root-6m

The chord gives it a real harsh and low sound
