Are there any characters/personalities in movies/books that you would look up to if they were real? For example, someone I could say I have a similar personality to and would admire is Atticus Finch from 'To Kill A Mockingbird". Anyone else?

I like Atticus Finch too, his character is so upright and respectable.

I like how he feels the need to look out for everyone he can, while caring about the ones dear and close to him as he loves them. He also does everything in his power to make society the best, and least prejdice it can be. He cares about society and he is responsible. Just what I like in myself, since I believe I am somewhat similar even if I never seem like it 40% of the time I'm around people.

I thought the people choosing Ayn Rand's characters were trolling

OT: Petra and Wang Mu from the Enderverse. Atticus Finch, natch. I quite like Darry in The Outsiders. And Jay Gatsby, because he's Gatsby.

Why? It surely can't be because you don't understand when people like different books than you. So it must be that it's still cool to hate Ayn Rand/Atlas Shrugged

I think Rand is a decent author, and that Atlas Shrugged has some interesting interpretations of Von Mises and Hayek, but I've never found anything even remotely admirable about John Galt or Henry Rearden.

Howard Roark, though, I see the appeal, I just disagree.

I couldn't really think of any, but yeah I somewhat agree with this. I felt his stoicism is pretty much what people should aim for.

You mean taking pride in being an insufferable know-it-all?

I like Snape, basically because I would absolutely hate Harry, Ron and Hermione if I was a teacher aswell.

And Remus Lupin.
And Sherlock Holmes.
Winston Smith from 1984 is kinda admireable.
