hey all,
just wondering if it's possible to change el84's for el34's. ive seen other forums where people say they just simply switch the el84's for 34's for a Plexi type sound (which is what im aiming for)
any input is appreciated! thanks!

Nope, not without circuit mods.

You can go EL-34 to EL-84, with the THD Yellowjacket, but not EL-84 to EL-34... The two tubes use completely different sockets.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Not to mention the transformers and the screen resistors that would need to be changed.

EL34s are much higher power valves than EL84s.

IIRC, El34s are somewhere between 25-20 watts each, and EL84s are around half that.

This is terrible advice. Even worse than the useless dry, sarcastic comment I made.

EL84, 6V6, EL34, 6L6, and 6550

Just look at them. One does not interchange with t'other.

They can be up to 30 watts each, which is way more than an EL84's 10 - 15, and you would absolutely need to change the power transformer and output transformer for the amp to properly handle that kind of power.
