It's sad how many people take advantage of the welfare system in America. Makes you want to say "take away welfare" Then, you realize there are those that need it.

indeed.

I'm sure people wouldn't have a problem working if they were going to starve otherwise.

all welfare does is help a small minority of people who actually need it while rewarding the laziness of others.

You're right, the government should never provide essentials to its citizens. How silly of anyone to have a little something called empathy.

you'd probably get a better response if you didn't just respond sarcastically.

an American can only be on TANF for 5 total years of his or her life. and only two consecutive years. the welfare reform of the 90s was largely focused on getting welfare recipients back into the workplace. and that's not a bad thing. people want to work. they want purpose. republicans create this bogeyman of people who don't want to work. not having work sucks.

also, most welfare recipients are kids. it's a pain in the ass to get federal aid. there are lots of working poor. I'd recommend y'all go use the living wage calculator and get a good idea of the value of a dollar and how having a job doesn't simply mean you're going to be fine.

it's ironic that you say that. the basic tenets of socialism essentially dictate that everyone must work together at something for the benefit of society. from each according to his ability to each according to his need.

in fact, it's industrialism and capitalism that reward "laziness" as it removes the inherent connection between labor and the laborer. in capitalism you can reap major profit for simply owning the means of production, meanwhile the people who physically labor trade their ownership over the fruits of their labors for hourly wages and benefits. in socialism and catholic social teaching, profit is inherently related to labor. it rewards real work. capitalism rewards the manipulation of markets. investors simply shuffling money around. venture capitalists who don't really have any product to offer. but capitalism also rewards risk taking and ingenuity which I do respect.

I'm a capitalist at the end of the day, but definitely with some heavy social regulation like marginal tax rates for an effective maximum wage, a living wage for all workers, etc. because these things all help capitalism. a living wage gives people money to pump into the economy; a maximum wage slows down inflation to keep the livid wage low. otherwise, businesses just raise their prices proportionally to the min wage increase to keep their profit margins the same. and it nullifies the pay raise altogether. that's not justice.

Ya, that worked really well when Clinton tried that!

Oh, no, wait, it didn't at all, poverty only got worse. No worry though, it's not as though there's an economic explanation as to why 100% employment in the working population is impossible, never mind the effects of technology and job automation. But if only there was a number of case studies and research based on the effectiveness of welfare compiled into a single volume which you cou- oh, hang on again, there is!

Y'know, if you weren't so lazy you mightn't be so ignorant. I'm sure you won't have a problem with doing this research yourself if i'm going to continue replying in a hostile, condescending and sarcastic manner.

all welfare does is help a small minority of people who actually need it while rewarding the laziness of others.

Prove it.
