Or so goes my sentiment of late. It honestly sounds all the same to me, as compared to shit on popular radio ten years ago when things sounded a bit more... varied in nature. Perhaps it's a cycle in industry, a lack of general creativity and too much trend following for now.

Opinions?

It's not you dude.

A classic rock station in my state has been playing nothing but new wave like Wham and such. I fail to see the connection that new wave disco has to do with rock music.

Agreeing here. There are very few good radio shows on nowadays. I just put my media player on shuffle

I would guess that with internet radio and satellite radio becoming more popular, that most mainstream stations are just playing what they know is safe, and won't cause the majority of listeners to change stations.

To what? Most stations just play the same old crap.

EDIT: Well, technically "new" crap. You get what I'm saying, right?

I only listen to music on radio when my friends turn it on, and the popular music stations are what they listen to. Furthermore, they enjoy the music, so I have to try to like it while I'm sitting there listening to it with them. Majority wins, and if majority likes this shit, it's what's getting played.

The two major Classic Rock and Hard Rock/Metal stations in my area have mostly abandoned their respective genres as well. You know a Classic Rock station has gone to shit when the only time you hear them play bands like Zeppelin is when they play through their entire collection, from A-Z, over the course of a few days.

You're wrong. It can get no worse.

I honestly think it has been getting better recently. I mean you have good stuff like Adele, Bruno Mars, Gaga... It was way worse a few years ago.

And I pretty much only listen to classic rock, but there is good stuff on the radio nowadays.

I've never been a fan of pop radio. In the Louisville area we have decent classic rock stations that still play classic rock. It's nice because you can switch back and forth. 107.7 and.. like 95.7 or something.

Well, as someone said, turn on another station. Radio is in a bad spot as a medium because it has to appeal to as many people as possible. That's why they only play big hits, and that's why they play new music. I'm sure a lot of people enjoy it or they'd go out of bussiness.

If you're saying mainstream music has gotten worse overall, I'd disagree actually. I think there's a lot more variety than we had a few years ago.

in work today, i was listening to a local major radio station (i had no choice) called radio city (radio sh*tty as i like to call it) and i worked 9am til 7pm and i heard lady gagagagaga's song "marry the night" TWENTY SIX (26) F*CKING TIMES!!!!!! that's pretty much once every half an hour.

it was ridiculous!

Oh look, another discussion about the state of music played on the radio. That'll be a productive endeavor.

Shitty music in the past was always just as shitty as shitty music we hear today. It's just that the truly shitty songs aren't remembered.

I don't think there's anything good on the radio right now to remember for the future. The "you can be my it girl" song needs to be locked away and thrown to the bottom of the sea.

Probably not right now, but this year, there definitely will be some good songs. Lady Gaga will come out with her new album, and her songs are catchy as ****.

This song was as bad as anything around today, and thankfully no one remembers it:

if CBC radio 2/3 and NPR didn't exist, I would agree with you wholeheartedly.

I think pop-country music is the most disgusting though, I can tolerate Lady Gaga if I have to, but Toby Keith makes me want to wretch.

I hate how radio stations keep playing the same shitty song over and over until everyone, including the people who liked it first, begin to complain.

That is why I always have my ipod with me, only problem is when I'm on a situation similar to darkstars'

If the grammys last year were any indication her vocals are nothing without post processing. She was consistently shaky voiced and slightly off key, maybe it was nerves, but it was pretty underwhelming.

Radio is as good/bad as it's ever been since like 2000, imo. They seem to overplay things alot more often, though.

It's by and large garbage, but I'm so deep in my own world that even #1 hits don't perforate my sphere until 6 months later. I found out what Super Bass was 2 weeks ago and in horror texted my friend, "what the hell is a Nicki Minaj and why do I want to start a proliteriat musical revolution?" I found out about Katy Perry from a gif of bouncing boobs and Brian Fallon's cover of teenage dream.

It wasn't her best performance. She's performed live much better before and after that event.
