I want to know why so many people hate the Avt/valvestate series, i own a avt50 valvestate 2000 amp and i would like your thoughts on the matter.

I think the thing is that they're overpriced and aren't as good as the advertisers will have you believe as opposed to them actually being bad.

Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

The older ones where awesome for the price. The new ones are way overpriced for what you get considering you could get a pretty nice tube amp for what they are charging.

This is terrible advice. Even worse than the useless dry, sarcastic comment I made.

I had the 150h, and there have been many occasions where I've had to use an avt50. I was impressed with how they repsond to Overdrive pedals. Their matching cabs/speakers suck though. For me, that is the reason why they aren't as could as they could be. Still have my AVT150h as back up!

+ 1

They aren't bad amps, they just aren't as good as other Marshalls.

If Marshall went back to using the Park brand for these lower range amps (and changed the prices accordingly), people would hate on them a lot less.

I love my AVT-20, its just a practice amp. Since it has a tube in it I think it makes it way better than any regular solid state practice amp.

I don't even.

The valve is pretty much a gimmick. It doesn't do much.

Whether the tube actually does anything or not is pretty moot anyway. They sound like bees in a tin can. You may as well buy an MG, they are that bad.

I don't remember the model numbers, but I remember being impressed with the older ones back when they first came out.

Nothing more subjective than the word "sucks."

Its utterly useless for any clean tone. I agree with the mg comparison. Just try other amps, you'll see/hear

Use whatever amp you like. I think it sounds like crap. But what do I know? I'm in a punk band.

If you like how it sounds, play it.

If you're like the 90% of us, you'll avoid it like the plague and buy a better amp for the money.

Why worry about it beyond that?

Hey there!! Most of the good punk bands actually have great tone (Kennedys excluded). Classic punk is a cranked valve amp and modern punk is screaming Mesas.

ok, from my point of view -

solid state.
Marshall was built on a empire of tubes. that is what they are good and known for.
its also over priced.

Well, technically it could be done, but only in the same way that you could change a cat into a hamburger. It's an unpleasant process, and nobody is happy with the result.
