Lyric analysis.
Specifically the song 13.
Specifically specifically whether its a retirement song or not.

"Thirteen times I went to the well
To draw my thoughts, I’ll gather and tell
Like bricks that I’ve laid to build my life
Those that crumbled only caused me strife

Thoughts became words, cast into the sea
But they returned, always haunting me
Like a severed arm washed up on the shore
I just don’t think I can give anymore

Because I’ve lived, how many times do I have to die?
Because I’ve lived, how many lives do I have to die?

Thirteen times and it’s been lucky for me
After everything, you still want me to bleed
Thirteen ways to see the devil in my eyes
Because I stood here thirteen times and I’m still alive

At thirteen I started down this path
Fueled with anger, music was my wrath
Years of clawing at scars that never healed
Drowning my mind, the thoughts are too real

Because I’ve lived, how many times do I have to die?
Because I’ve lived, how many lives do I have to die?

Thirteen times and it’s been lucky for me
After everything, you still want me to bleed
Thirteen ways to see the devil in my eyes
Because I stood here thirteen times and I’m still alive

I can’t get out; I can’t jump out
Too much to face; I can’t erase

Because I’ve lived, how many times do I have to die?
Because I’ve lived, how many lives do I have to die?

Thirteen times and it’s been lucky for me
After everything, you still want me to bleed
Thirteen ways to see the devil in my eyes
Because I stood here thirteen times and I’m still alive

I can’t get out; I can’t jump out
Too much to face; I can’t erase

Thirteen times and it’s been lucky for me"

Basic Argument for: Thirteen is lucky for him, so he should quit while he's ahead and stuff. Not to mention all the remixes on Th1rt3en (Millenium of the Blind, etc). And, of course "I just don't think I can give anymore."

Basic Argument against: "I can't get out" "I'm still alive" and that stuff suggest hes still going.

So have at it.

It's Mustaine not Mustiane dumbass. And you're an idiot for assuming everyone thinks of him when you say "Dave". I personally think of David Lee Roth.
I'm rgrockr and I do not approve of this message.

Irony lulz

OT: Why would I waste my time analyzing shitty thrash metal lyrics? I only analyze shitty post-hardcore lyrics.

No, i'm not 13 and I don't listen to shitty, glorified 80's glam rock.

I'm 14 now.

And how old are you again? Not everyone listens to Megadeth. Plus, their new album sucked anyway.

Split your lungs with blood and thunder,
When you see the white whale.
Break your backs and crack your oars, men!
If you wish to prevail...
This ivory leg is what propels me,
Harpoons thrust in the sky.
Aim directly for his crooked brow,
And look him straight in the eye!

Let's try and get into the heads of the guys at Mastodon.
To be vulnerable is needed most of all, if you intend to truly fall apart.

Swollen with liquid
Ready to burst
A load of my lymph
Will quench this dead body's thirst
One month in the grave
twisted and half decayed
She turned a putrid yellow
I pisse din her maggot filled asshole
****ing the rotting
My semen is bleeding
The smell of decay
Seeps from her genital cavity
The smell was unbearable
As I unburied her
I cum blood from my erection
I feel it run
down her throat, swallow
Eyes glassy and vacant
body dug up to play with
Skin greasy and naked
tounguing her rotted anus
I need a live woman

I think it's about Barnes' relationship with his parents. Mostly his mother.

Yes, he must have had a violent death in the family as he was developing sexually. Puberty and gore don't mix well. "Necropedophile" has worse lyrics though.

You should have expected this TS. Posing a question to the pit about an artists hidden meaning in a song.....can't be done.

I, however, have heard the song and liked the album. I personally think he will keep going after feeling re-energized after his neck surgery. There was a recent interview where he said he felt much much better and is actually enjoying himself now.

Dave Mustaine is such a unique poet that it is very difficult to place her in any single tradition—she seems to come from everywhere and nowhere at once. Her poetic form, with her customary four-line stanzas, ABCB rhyme schemes, and alternations in iambic meter between tetrameter and trimeter, is derived from Psalms and Protestant hymns, but Mustaine so thoroughly appropriates the forms—interposing her own long, rhythmic dashes designed to interrupt the meter and indicate short pauses—that the resemblance seems quite faint.

Her subjects are often parts of the topography of her own psyche; she explores her own feelings with painstaking and often painful honesty but never loses sight of their universal poetic application; one of her greatest techniques is to write about the particulars of her own emotions in a kind of universal homiletic or adage-like tone ("Like bricks that I’ve laid to build my life/ Those that crumbled only caused me strife") that seems to describe the reader’s mind as well as it does the poet’s.

Mustaine is not a "philosophical poet"; unlike Hetfield or Vikernes, she makes no effort to organize her thoughts and feelings into a coherent, unified worldview. Rather, her poems simply record thoughts and feelings experienced naturally over the course of a lifetime devoted to reflection and creativity: the powerful mind represented in these records is by turns astonishing, compelling, moving, and thought-provoking, and emerges much more vividly than if Mustaine hadd orchestrated her work according to a preconceived philosophical system.

No, she's just in touch with her feminine side. That's why he sings the way she does.
