I have stumbled upon some singer songwriter material were the singer is doing like a whispering style of singing. I was always told to project my voice and sing as loud as i can, is this still and acceptably way of singing? Also i have a deep semi-raspy voice is there a particular style of singing that would fit me better than others. this is what i am going for.

If it sounds good and doesn't damage your voice it is an acceptable way of singing.

as always, hydra is right.

typically projecting is great, but you can have a fantastic dynamic range if you try new ways of using your voice. another great vocalist with a whisper-y style is elliott smith, his voice absolutely sends chills down my spine in the most orgasmic way.

Perhaps It'll seem less self-indulgent if I point out that Alan was taking the piss.
