Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice on pulling off to open strings, because I struggle to get it sounding clean, and it just messes up my playing. For example, Rose of Sharyn by KSE, in the intro riff, where the little lick goes:

C|--7h8p7p0---------------|
G|----------7h8p7p0-8s10--|
C|------------------8s10--|

I can't get that to sound good at the moment. Any tips of how to improve my playing so that playing riffs like that sound clean and smooth?

Thanks.

Practice and work on muting.

Junior's usually at least a little terse, but he knows his stuff. I've always read his posts in a grouchy grandfather voice, a grouchy grandfather with a huge stiffy for alternate picking.
Besides that, he's right this time. As usual.

Bend your finger down slightly on the fret so you kind of pluck the open string when you release

play it slow. start again when you make a mistake.

or you can do this

el
bl 4ph2ph0-------------4ph2ph0
gl-------------4ph2ph0------------
dl
al
el

etc, etc. Thunderstruck (ac/dc) is a good one to bust out on, and if you can actually play it right you're already better than most kids who pick up a guitar and play

You don't have to pull off to an open string in that part, it actually goes like this:

C|-----8--7h8p7--------------------------|
G|------------------7h8p7--------8s10--|
C|----------------------------------8s10--|
