Are they really way better or is it the subtitles? I pretty much can't watch movies in English anymore, but I love Asian movies.

Am I just messed up on drugs or do Asian movies have this extra dimension that English movies don't have?
#3
I can't watch Asian movies because I become too involved reading and miss out on the scene itself.
The content of this signature is pretty much irrelevant

that.

and american movies are much better than asian ones because they just are.

They're not. They are often cold and sterile, with fantastic violence and shock plots as the only compelling features.

...modes and scales are still useless.

Swedish noir cinema is the best, there is really no talk about it, and this discussion is really about the second place.
We should start calling it "The Fact of Evolution", theory, even though correct, does not work with the ignorant..

Ip Man

GREAT movie. Both in story and cinema.
If you can't read fast enough to see the dialog and the action, then you should be reading books instead of watching movies.

And may I say:

Also, there is a whole heap of great asian movies that won film festival awards. The scene is just incredibly inaccessible

God no. I could cite a ton of classic Hollywood films that the Asian movie industry wouldn't be able to hold a candle to.

Exactly what I'm talking about. Granted, it's a fun film, but it doesn't have a heart.

A less successful execution in the same vein: The Man From Nowhere

...modes and scales are still useless.

Probably because you're used to Western culture, so when you see something foreign, it's different for you, not what you're used to in typical movies, so you find it more interesting/better.

I'm sure someone who grew up in Japan feels the same way about Hollywood films.

I thought it had a pretty well-thought out and engaging story. Granted the violence did at times detract from the story but it still holds it own against most Western movies.

The story itself is interesting, and the fighting sequence is really good. But the characters are just lacking in depth. They're more like pawns to get to the crazy plot twists and action scenes. That's the problem with most Asian movies.

This is a really stupid generalization. There are great movies and directors in both countries, the only problem I have with Asian films is that they kinda demand you to be familiar with certain aspects of asian culture.

Yeah, no disagreements there. We've milked that trick for all it's worth and it's getting really old

You know, if you're comparing it with generic romance comedies (inevitably with Jennifer Aniston in the starring role), then yes, Asian movies are much better.

Oh, screw that. ANY OTHER MOVIE WOULD BE BETTER.

You linked right before my favorite part of the song

I watched a bunch of Asian movies with my roommate last year. They were a perfect example of something being so bad, it's good. Exhibit A, Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl.

Some Asian movies are undoubtedly pretty good, most of my experience is with laughably bad ones though.

I really like some asian horror movies. They are more unique, in my naive opinion. (i don't watch many movies)

Also, i feel like the asian language conveys more emotion in their speech compared to english. Perhaps because I can't understand it though. English acting usually feels so contrived.

I really like Shutter, the Thai version.

The lake was silent for some time. Finally it said:
"I weep for Narcissus, but I never noticed that Narcissus was beautiful. I weep because, each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected."
