I'm thinking about taking my first plunge into valve territory and I just had a few questions regarding them. 1st, how exactly do they work. 2nd, Are they better than tube amps as far as sound and reliability?

Also, just recently moved into an apartment complex, so my above question may be null and void. In light of this, I was also thinking about getting a solid state combo amp so I can practice without disturbing the peace. What would UG recommend as far as a 2x12? Another thing to keep in mind is that I will be using a Boss GT-10 in front of anything I play...any suggestions?

Valve = Tube for British people. They're two different terms for the same thing.

Yep. I was confused by your post at first; looking at your gear list, I thought "what the hell is he talking about, he already has 2 valve amps!"

There's no point in getting a 2x12 for an apartment, there's no sound difference, they only really hel "push" the volume in gigs.
#6
Hm, well what should I get for apartment practicing? I want something that CAN get some volume to it because I hope to do some kind of recording in the near future.

I have a 2x12 rectifier for my bed room, and I like it. So does a friend I know, same cabinet and everything except he actually has a matching mesa rectifier.
#8
I'm mainly looking for a combo, just something I can haul to a friends place and whatnot

I've heard that napkins means vaginal towlettes to them or something, idk.

Not that I've ever heard. We tend to call them 'pussingtons' or 'soggyscarves'

Where did you hear that? It's complete BS. If you want some sorta small-ish valve combo, look at the Blackstar HT1, Epi valve Jr or wait for the Marshall 1 watt 50th anniversary versions of classic amps (JTM, JMP, JVM, DSL and JCM800).

I'll have to keep doing my research, there's too many amps for me to make a decision. On another note, I need some new instrument cables. Which would be the best bang for my buck?

I'm a fan of Whirlwind for no particular reason. D'Addario Planet Waves are good cables, I've heard. Stay away from Fender branded cables. The ones I've had crapped out on me. I'm not a big believer in cable voodoo.

I've own some Ibanez calbes and they were GARBAGE, I have some Monster 1000s right now, I love them, but I only had the money for two 12 footers. If I had the money, I'd get longer ones, but I can't. I'm in the market for two 20 or 25 ft

Live Wire. I have nothing but good things to say about them, and all things considered, the price, the lifetime warranty, they're just awesome.
